Most patrols were pretty boring affairs. The ones that weren't were noteworthy and stood out, like the one he met Honos on. That was memorable. The fifth time he hunted down Duskcreeper and tried to get him to his court-mandated therapy sessions? This week? Not so memorable, that happened two or three times a month.

THIS patrol though was interesting, simply because it had something Surge hadn't seen before, at least outside of a comic book.

Webs. Up across from First Astaria Bank, there was a veritable spider's nest of webbing all in a tangle. Like someone was staking out the place. Surge went to go check it out at night, when he figured he'd be most likely to catch either the giant spider that made this, or the evil Peter Parker clone that did it.

"Okay so Kaine, or Ben Reily? Or maybe a symbiote, like Venom or Carnage? No wait, they use symbiote goo, not webs, it just looks like webs. And I think Venom's a good guy now anyway."

ALAIN sighed in his ear. "Unit <SURGE>, please keep nonessential radio activity to a minimum."

Tim rolled his eyes. Ever since Alice got her body finished, she'd been spending more time away from the Aegis systems, and computer systems in general, and more time in the real world. She still had to run things, so she'd made this Alice-Linked Auxiliary Integrated Node, or ALAIN for short, to be essentially an automated Alice. If anything went bad enough that it needed her direct input, it would ping her and Alice would drop out of her body and step in. Really, it worked pretty well, even if ALAIN didn't have Alice's sense of humor.

The webbing gave slightly to pressure from Surge's finger, before springing back into place. A few strands snapped easily, but most of them were still pretty sturdy. He had no way of knowing how old this was, but he was going to keep an eye out for whoever left this mess and was trying to get into the bank.

His first step was to actually look at the bank, and even though he could see far more parts of the light spectrum than most other people, there was still enough solid material in the bank to keep him from seeing if anyone was inside. So he did a normal sweep, his efforts rewarded with a few strands of web around an open skylight.

"For pete's sake, I keep telling them that if they really want to make this bank secure they have to either remove or booby-trap the skylight."

He dropped in, and feeling confident, decided to make himself known "Spider-person, spider-person, where are you right now, spider-person. Did you know? You're trespassing. Better not, rob this place. Look out, Aegis is on the scene."

"Unit <SURGE>. Improper announcement protocol. Transmitting recording to overseeing agents, possibly escalating to Pillars. In addition, you were off-key"

"Oh shut up, ALAIN."

Kara had been scoping out the bank for a month or so now.  She had the perfect plan to get in.  After all, half assing getting int a bank vault REALLY wasn't something you wanted to be doing.  She'd been visiting the bank in plain clothes, making withdrawals and deposits into an account of hers every so often.  Sometimes asking for help to determine things about the bank, under the idea of her comparing banks to make sure she got the best deal.  A very good practice in general, but unfortunately for the bank, not something she was actually genuinely doing.  Tonight was her actual day to try and get into the vault so she was in her spider suit.  Emerald green, with a black spider on it outlined in greyscale.  Her head was covered to protect her identity of course.  The only part that was visible was the half of her face under her nose.  None of the needless Spiderman bit of yanking your mask up.  That was a total waste of time, because say you picked up a burrito. If you had to yank your mask up, you WERE getting sauce on your mask. Stains were so hard to get out! If she already had to get blood out of her suit she wasn't gonna add problems to her laundry. [break][break]

When she got to the roof of the bank, around the skylight. And that's when she saw the webs. Fuuuuckkk those weren't hers. Well whatever nobody appeared to have noticed yet. She stuck some webbing on the roof, popped open the skylight...honestly she'd expected that to be easier but getting the frame out of the hole was waaay too easy. And in she went, hanging upside down on her web. Officially in the bank vault. She grinned. Although she was upside down so like...should she frown to make it look like a smile? Kara honestly wasn't sure at this point. And that's when she overheard some chatter and her eyes widened. Maybe she needed to get going so they wouldn't see her, but at the same time they were just cracking jokes so...she could probably take them if needed? She wanted the time to spin around on her web and check things out after all. Maybe take a couple of pictures.

Tim sighed when there was no response. "All right, gotta do this the right way."

He dropped down into the skylight and raised his voice. "I'm agent Surge of Aegis. You are currently trespassing. Please vacate the premises at once, or I shall be forced to make you vacate it."

ALAIN made happy beeps in his ear, and Tim rolled his eyes. "Come on. Don't make this hard. Right now I have you on trespassing, maybe B and E, but if you cooperate it doesn't have to be bad. In fact, it could be a good thing. We can get you help if you need it."

He couldn't help but be distracted by the spider silk around the area. He plucked on a strand of it. "Okay you've gotta tell me what the chemical composition of this stuff is. How do you make it? Do you store it in pressurized cartridges? What's the distribution method? OOH! Is it a natural mutation? Do you have other spider-powers?"

"Unit <SURGE>. Please refrain from fraternizing with the suspect."

"ALAIN, shut the fuck up."

"Transmitting recordings to Pillars."

Surge sighed.

Kara hadn't really expected a warning. Trespassing and Break and Enter huh? Well things is, she didn't like those options. Those options usually came with her being unmasked, and she wasn't exactly new to this. She didn't really want to be pinned with all the potential felonies they'd be able to slap her with. Besides, it would also let her darling brother know where she was, and she wasn't up for that. At all. She wasn't really ready to vacate either. If he forced a fight, she felt like one. She didn't really like the idea of fighting law enforcement but like...let's be real it wouldn't be the first time and it probably wouldn't be the last time. Honestly, she was surprised Aegis hadn't directly encountered her before. I mean yes she was doing relatively minor things, but they WERE still felonies. Were there really that many people who left webs at the scene? And while she was on that topic, she really should figure out a way to melt her webs afterwards to erase the evidence. It would be convenient.

"Look, I'm not really up for-wait...uh...they're...natural?" Kara was so confused. He had given her a warning and was now following it with questions about her powers. She honestly hadn't really meant to answer the hero either, but it just took her so offguard it just escaped her mouth.

"I...don't think that's usual procedure but I...definitely won't say anything...uh...I do have other spider related powers? That's kind of why I have a spider on my outfit. It would be hard to do anything with just webs..." She was still so damn confused about this though. Wasn't Aegis kind of...by the book? And Surge was a public face, if she remembered right. So...what the fuck was this?

Surge couldn't keep the excitement from being evident in his voice. "Okay that's freaking badass. Can you stick to walls? Like climb them and shit? What's the heaviest you've lifted, was your strength proportionally augmented as well? What about your senses, do you have a danger sense? A tremorsense? Echolocation? Wait that's bats. And Daredevil but he's not real. I think. Someone with Daredevil's powers could be real, but I haven't heard of them. Wait shit sorry I'm getting distracted."

"Unit <SURGE>, proceed with the apprehension and cease unapproved fraternization."

"ALAIN, so help me I will... do... something. I don't know what. Just hush."

He turned back to the spider-woman. "Okay okay okay. Here's the best way to get this all fixed up. You come with me, we get out of the bank, and as far as I'm getting this is a first offense, so I'll let you off with a warning and get you some resources for some places that can help. Nothing on your record, everything squeaky-clean. You just come down to HQ with me and we go through the process. And as a bonus you could answer my questions that would be awesome because I am really fascinated by how your powers work. Do you swing from the webs? How does the physics work? Any ordinary person would rip their arms out of their sockets, are your shoulder muscles and joints reinforced? Did that come with training, or with the mutation? Was it a radioactive spider?"

"Unit <SURGE>--"

"Oh no--kssssh--I'm going through a--kssshh--tunnel!"

Unit <SURGE>, you are vocalizing unconvincing static and--" ALAIN was cut off as Tim put it on mute.

"I'm telling Alice that damn thing needs more work, it's annoying as hell."
