| It'd been a while since she'd hung out with Morrigan. Far too long in her opinion. She didn't blame either of them for the distance between them lately. She had college which meant studying when she wasn't fighting crime. And speaking of fighting crime, Morrigan had Aegis and whatever missions she did for them.
While she knew Morrigan was part of Aegis - she didn't think Morrigan's teammates knew she knew - she wasn't entirely sure what missions she did. It didn't help that she wasn't entirely sure what Aegis did in general. There was their public image but then there was also her older brother, Ivan, and his theories.
She didn't think his theories held much weight but she was also trying hard not to write them off completely. His theory that they could only trust Tim and Alice at Aegis was wrong, after all. While he didn't know it, she knew she could trust Morrigan.
She waited for her at the booth she'd acquired. She was dressed in high-waisted, form fitting blue jeans, black ankle boots, and a red crop top. She was on her phone, checking the latest news stories, specifically those about people with powers.
She'd heard about Aegis losing a member of their team. He'd been killed - it had made the news. It was one of the reasons why she'd texted Morrigan a few days ago, asking to meet up and hang out. She wanted to make sure she was okay. She didn't know how well she'd known that guy - Impulse - so she didn't know how much she'd be grieving, but she wanted to be there for her friend.
Morrigan mattered a great deal to her and she wanted to make sure she knew that.

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] WE'VE BEEN CHASING OUR DEMONS DOWN AN EMPTY ROAD ESCAPING OUR SHADOWS JUST TO END UP HERE [attr="class","itokaytext"]Morrigan hadn't seen Lisa for a while. She'd been so busy with Aegis, figuring things out that she hadn't really had time for her friends. But it was so important to stay in touch with her friends. Ignoring them just wasn't...her. Besides, being Aegis was no excuse. Even if Lisa knew. She kept her identity secret, but she'd known Lisa long enough to know she could be trusted with the knowledge. And Lisa had had college. But she was glad they were hanging out now. She opened the door to the restaurant. It was nice, and Morrigan was glad she'd gone with the dark wash jeans and a green tank top. She realized the timing of this was right after Impulse's death. It was possible that was connected to Lisa wanting to meet up. Morrigan was trying to keep her mind from thinking about it too much. She'd known Impulse for quite a long time, and it was disturbing to realize that everything could...end that quickly. Her own mortality wasn't really something she faced head-on. She spotted Lisa and a big smile made its way onto her face.
"Hey Lisa been a while." Morrigan slid into the booth, across the table from Lisa. It made talking face to face a lot easier after all.
"How have you been? Busy I'm guessing." There was no judgment whatsoever in the statement because she was busy too. What she just realized though was that while she'd told Lisa she was Aegis, she wasn't entirely sure she knew Shade was a Pillar of Aegis.

| It wasn't easy being a political science major at the university. It involved a lot of work as well as knowing what was currently going on within politics. The latter could often be, and was often, mentally and emotionally draining. Add that with her double life as Chameleon? She'd been utterly exhausted lately.
She looked up from her phone when Morrigan arrived, watching her slide into the booth. She'd once thought her friend had changed, the smallest of changes but she'd noticed. She'd convinced herself it was part of growing up. She was still her Morrigan, after all - or as much of hers as a friend could get.
She avoided that train of thought.
She smiled apologetically though she had a feeling that Morrigan wasn't upset at her. Still, she thought she could have made a better attempt at keeping in contact and hanging out more.
"College has been kicking my ass," she admitted, which was true. She would leave the part about her being Chameleon out of the conversation. She still didn't want to put Morrigan in the awkward position of deciding whether or not to arrest her for being an illegal vigilante. That and if Chameleon made enemies, they hopefully wouldn't be automatically added to the list of Aegis enemies that she knew Morrigan had to deal with.
"I wanted to see how you're doing, though," she added, reaching forward, placing her hand on the table, leaving it there in case Morrigan needed to grab it. She knew loss, knew its pain. True, the only loss she'd personally experienced was her father walking out on her family that wasn't even close to losing someone to death. She could still sympathize however.
"I heard you lost someone," she kept her voice gentle, her eyes watching for any signs that would tell her Morrigan wanted her to drop the topic. "I wanted to check on you."
Morrigan was her friend, after all. She genuinely cared about her and her well-being.

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] WE'VE BEEN CHASING OUR DEMONS DOWN AN EMPTY ROAD ESCAPING OUR SHADOWS JUST TO END UP HERE [attr="class","itokaytext"]Morrigan heard Lisa say college had been kicking her ass and she chuckled, nodding in agreement. College had a tendency to do that. Higher education was important, and Morrigan just knew her friend would excel at it. In the meantime though, she was allowed to miss her longtime friend. Just a bit. That was allowed right? She heard the questions, and saw the hand placed on the table. She smiled, a tinge of sadness in it. She took Lisa's hand and squeezed it briefly before letting it go. Lisa was a very sweet person. Once upon a time, Morrigan had to admit she had felt sparks with the other woman. Her mind was very confused lately though, and she felt like that wasn't something that could be put on another person. She truthfully needed to sort herself out quite a lot.
"I'm fine. For the most part anyways. It has been difficult though. I knew Arthur a long time. I mean...I didn't know his public identity for long, but I worked with him a while. And suddenly he's gone. It just...I guess it makes me realize that people can be gone in a snap." She ran a hand through her blonde hair with a sigh.
"And the whole public identity. It's such a double edged sword. On the one hand, you're telling all the villains who you are. On the other hand though, you're letting the people you've known forever who you are. I just...I didn't actually KNOW Arthur because our identities weren't public. That can't help but...weigh on me I guess." Morrigan truthfully didn't know what to make of it. She didn't know quite what to say. They were supposed to be catching up, but Lisa had asked the one question that there just...there just...just wasn't a simple answer. Her next words were a little quieter because of the sadness about the subject that she felt.
"Our work is dangerous. This makes me realize it. It can be rewarding, but it can also sucker punch us when we least expect it."

| She smiled softly when Morrigan took her hand and gave it a light squeeze. Truth be told, she'd hoped the hold would last a bit longer but whatever helped her friend feel better.
She hadn't known the man's name until Morrigan said it. Truth be told, she hadn't paid much attention to the news' coverage of it. When she'd heard about his death, her mind had instantly gone to Morrigan, wondering how she was, wishing she could've been there for her. She hadn't really paid much attention to anything or anyone else.
She'd sent a quick text to both Tim and Alice, letting them know she was there for them if they needed her, but she'd also figured Ivan would take care of comforting them, if they let him. Ivan, after all, was closer to the two of them than she was.
She listened quietly to what Morrigan had to say, wanting her to feel safe and open with her. She may not have lost someone like that but she definitely understood someone being "gone in a snap."
She honestly didn't understand why some Aegis members didn't know each other's secret identities if the public didn't know. She would've thought Aegis would've wanted to build a sense of comradery and knowing who each other are under the masks certainly would've helped with that. But she didn't think it was her place to openly question that since she refused to join Aegis herself.
"I'm sure you knew him well," she replied, voice gentle. "Even if you didn't know his name, I'm sure he counted you as a close friend." She wasn't sure, actually, but it felt right to say. She didn't know enough about Morrigan's relationship with Arthur to be sure of what would exactly help, though.
"That's what makes you brave, though," she added, "You continue to do the work you do despite the dangers."

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] WE'VE BEEN CHASING OUR DEMONS DOWN AN EMPTY ROAD ESCAPING OUR SHADOWS JUST TO END UP HERE [attr="class","itokaytext"]Lisa was a very good listener. Morrigan had known that before, but it just made it all the clearer when Lisa was listening attentively to what Morrigan was saying. A good friend, and Morrigan was glad they were friends. Of course, that definitely wasn't the only reason. They'd been friends a while after all, and just 'good listener' didn't make a friendship on its own. She listened to Lisa as she spoke gently about how she must have known him well even if they didn't know each others' names. The bit about the close friend...Morrigan hadn't known him as long as a lot of other heroes in Aegis. Art had been around for a while, even if people hadn't known his public identity. She heard the bit about being brave despite the dangers and she shook her head.
"I don't really know anything else. I don't think that's bravery. Even if I go into danger and know it's dangerous, it doesn't really hit you until someone around you dies and they were doing virtually the same things you yourself do everyday. But...it's all I really know. Fighting. I guess that's kinda fucked up, only knowing fighting but it's true. I just...I always thought about my parents dying. Facing my own mortality is something I kind of looked over, y'know?" It was a discussion that Morrigan knew would have come up eventually. But she wasn't really used to thinking about death. Even if her powers were literally that of shadow, and seeing the shadow in other people. Her own death had kind of evaded her notice until she had to mourn someone else.
"When you have to mourn the loss of someone else, it makes you realize. Like...until you have to mourn someone else you don't think much of your own death. It's a nothingness you could face, but you aren't TRULY going to face it. It's everyone you know who will face it. And when you mourn someone...you get a glimpse of how people might feel if you die yourself. It's...an odd feeling."

| Was it sad that Morrigan seemed to only know how to be a member of Aegis? How to put herself into danger? Perhaps but Lisa identified with it. A while ago she wouldn't have, but now, as Chameleon, she understood it. Despite having lived plenty of her life not as a vigilante, she now no longer knew who she was without Chameleon. She didn't know who she'd be if she didn't have her powers.
She nodded as Morrigan spoke to show she understood. She understood better than Morrigan probably thought. She wondered if now would be a bad time to tell her that. She wondered if there would ever be a good time.
"I get that," she replied softly, "I really do. Death, especially our own, isn't something that's often in our thoughts. So anything that causes us to, well, face that... It's scary."
She paused for a brief moment, noticing the waiter was making his way to the table.
"My mom once told me," she continued, unsure if this information would help but hoping it would. "That we don't grieve for the dead. We grieve for the living, for ourselves. We grieve 'cause they're no longer with us. She told me grieving is something we have to do for ourselves, in our own time, our own ways."
She gave Morrigan a soft smile. "But hey, you're still here now. You're here. You're with me. And I'm thankful for that."

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] WE'VE BEEN CHASING OUR DEMONS DOWN AN EMPTY ROAD ESCAPING OUR SHADOWS JUST TO END UP HERE [attr="class","itokaytext"]Grieving is for us. Not those who have passed. Morrigan could understand that all too well. She smiled slightly, a tinge of sadness in the expression as she heard Lisa say she was there. That was all you could do really. Realize that we were here for a limited time, and do all we could in that time. [break][break]
"I face death everyday. But I'm facing the possible deaths of OTHER people. People I lead. People I'm saving. Not...me. It's frightening and it's...a sobering feeling." She sighed. She heard the words that she was still here, here with Lisa and saw the smile. She felt her cheeks heat up with a blush at it. The waiter arrived and it was time to order. She looked at the guy and ordered her favourite food off the menu. She basically knew the menu off by heart by now so it wasn't a big deal. [break][break]
"Time to eat. My treat. My salary's gotta be good for something, right?" She grinned.
