| He didn't really have an office. He had a decent sized apartment he shared with his two dogs - Sparky and Apex. He kept most of his work at home but occasionally he took it to the local cyber cafe. None of the employees had ever seemed to mind. He'd been coming here for as long as he could remember, curling up in a corner booth all by himself, a laptop or tablet in hand, sometimes a pile of books.
He was probably thought of as the odd customer that sipped tea and coffee by himself, occasionally trying to talk tech with some of the employees he'd come to recognize. He occasionally spoke up when he overheard some topics, putting his two cents in, getting glared at in response or written off as crazy.
He'd never liked being called crazy. Eccentric he could deal with. Crazy made him want to punch someone.
It was around lunch time, the cafe uncomfortably growing more and more crowded. His usual booth was one of those larger semi-circular ones. He had both his laptop and tablet with him. A hot cup of coffee sat within arms reach, having recently been refilled by a waitress.
He had his email open on both, looking through hacking and detective job requests. He needed the money but he also didn't want to work for the wrong people. He frowned at one that seemed to suggest the sender wanted him to hack into Aegis. He filed that away to look into more thoroughly. If someone wanted to get into Aegis, they were probably someone he needed to become aware of.
Ivan glanced up when he heard the cafe's door open again, shifting uncomfortably in his seat at the thought of more people entering what he saw as his sanctuary.

[attr="class","box1"]It was the same thing every day for Dr. Sebastian Kane. Wake up at 3am in his dormitory the CEO so graciously gave him back when he was twenty-seven, drink a cup of hot tea, because caffeine never worked on him due to his accelerated healing factor. The same thing happened with alcohol and drugs (yes, he tried all of them...for science). He'd shower, shave (well, he used to, now he doesn't care and keeps his beard neatly trimmed), and then get dressed and ready to go by 4am to work in the Genetics Division within the underground research facility for twelve hours.
Sometimes, he worked twenty-four hours, and he wouldn't be tired since science work was mostly being in the lab, staring at computers, and working on genetic coding, blood work, and whatever else he needed to do. Sometimes, he even spoke to the subjects, becoming friends with a few, and becoming a father-figure to more than one of them. Nothing too strenuous where his body would require a decent amount of rest after working that long. Today though, he was scheduled to be off for the next three days. Part of him didn't want to, as he loved to work, but the rest of him...?
Time to get away from this place for the day, he thought.
Kane was dressed in his usual casual attire of a black shirt, faded black jeans, and a pair of black boots, and then put on a brown leather jacket over a white hoodie. Before he left ARF's grounds, he was given several plain-clothed guards to follow him around while he was away. He hated it. He hated he couldn't be trusted. They weren't there to protect him, after all. They were there to protect everyone else if – and it's a big if – something were to happen. He scoffed, shaking his head as he walked along the sidewalk, hands inside his coat pockets, as he looked on with a grumpy expression. He had more control than his superiors believed. It took him nearly all of his life to achieve a balance of control between his human side and his abilities they gave him. He wasn't a monster like some of the others because he chose not to be. They chose it. They chose to hurt and give in to their blood-lust. He refused. He didn't want to slaughter anyone, and this was why he wasn't sent to train more for military service, but most of the credit went to his parents – bless them for giving him what he wanted to become; a scientist, like them. He had his reasons though.
All the walking he was doing was making him hungry. His enhanced sense-of-smell was picking up so much wonderfully smelling food as he made his way to the West End of Astaria. He couldn't decide at first, but as he made his way around, he slowed his pace, looking up to see the sign on a building, TJ's Cyber Cafe. “Oooh,” he paused.
He glanced behind him and easily spotted the three guards who were pretending they weren't following him. He sighed to himself, wishing he could ditch them, but he knew they could easily find him again because of the damn RFID chip the doctors and security stuck inside the back of his neck with, so they can locate him if they needed to. With a slight grunt, he returned his attention to the entrance of the cafe, took a moment to breathe in the scent of the pizza and sandwiches they were baking for the growing crowd of customers inside. He sighed at the thought of a crowd...and the noise. His sensitive hearing hated noise, especially when he's able to pick up every single conversation in there. It sucked, but...it had it's advantages, like every other enhancement he was given.
With a deep breath, he took out a couple of earbuds, which were wired to an ipod to make it look like he was listening to music, but to keep the noise at a more comfortable level for him. There was music on there, but he wasn't listening to any of it at the moment. He entered into the cafe finally, silently griping about the guards who will soon show up minutes after he did. He looked around, noticing everyone who had someone to talk to, while there was one who was alone in a corner booth. He studied the younger man for a moment before walking up to the register to order an extra large cheese pizza with vegetables.
“Oh! Add pineapples, too, please,” he said as he noticed they had pineapples on the list of available ingredients.
The employee taking his order nodded, and once Kane paid for his lunch, he sat down at the stool since there weren't many places to sit right now to wait for them to bake his pizza. He sat still for a few minutes before swiveling around like some small, bored child; mostly to keep an eye on the guards who were keeping an eye on him.

"IF YOU CHOOSE TO OPPOSE ME, YOU ONLY SEAL YOUR OWN DOOM! SO BE IT! THE DIE IS CAST!" A large robotic arm swung across the skyline, intending to smash the light-cloaked hero into a wall with it, but Surge was too quick. After causing some property damage, it pulled back to defend the large robotic pod that a somewhat portly man was sitting in from the barrage of energy blasts flung at it. "Wait, wait. Let me guess. Scientist working on some new innovation in robotics, you were either spurned by ARF or your work was stolen by a coworker, and now you're either trying to steal your work back, or steal enough money to build an even bigger and badder thing to put ARF in it's place. Am I right?" "INSOLENT WHELP!" "Overly bombastic combat banter, check. You're hitting all the tropes. Are you secretly auditioning for the role of Doctor Eggman in that Sonic the Hedgehog movie that's coming out next year?" Timothy Smith, known better to the public as Surge, was having too much fun with this. Today was an on-call day for Aegis, and well, guy trying to rob a place in a giant robot pod-mech-thing fell under Aegis' purview. The fact that he got riled up so easy with his banter was just icing on the cake. He wanted to try to get this out of a more populated area, maybe to someplace like the Abandoned Warehouse District. He flew in close, going to give a nice, high-energy punch that would either end this or move it to someplace a little bit safer for bystanders. What he didn't expect was that this guy built his mech pod thing with five arms. The fifth arm slid out from the bottom of the pod and caught him completely unaware, smacking him full across the face and sending him flying for a few city blocks. Inside the cybercafe, everything was nice, calm, and peaceful. Right up until one guy saw the light-covered human meteor hurtling toward the front window, dropped his coffee which then spilled on his neighbor's laptop, and just about started a minor brawl before Surge came crashing through the window. "Who the heck puts an odd number of arms and/or legs on their mech?" Ivan Stane, @lupinus

| He noticed everyone that walked in, eyes darting to them to decide if they were an immediate threat or not. He could just hear the voices of two of his siblings in his head, telling him he was overreacting, that he was too paranoid. He liked to think he was prepared.
There were three people that he was particularly interested. They didn't seem like they were supposed to be in the cafe or wanted to be in the cafe. It was something about their body language, the way they held themselves, the way they looked over in a certain direction more times than he thought was normal. Not that he knew much about being "normal."
He glanced in the direction they kept looking at. There was a man ordering and the worker he was ordering from. The cash register was obviously there. Were they thinking of robbing the place? He fidgeted nervously, his hand reaching out to grab his cup of coffee, more so to use the warmth to ground himself rather than drink it.
Maybe they were casing the place out, planning to come back here later. Maybe it was all in his head. Maybe he was noticing things that weren't really there. There was a movement and his eyes quickly drifted to the cause of it - a grown man spinning around on some stool either from boredom or perhaps clinging to some sense of childlike wonder.
He blinked, watching the man clearly out of curiosity and not judgement. It wasn't hard to make Ivan curious. The mere act of spinning around reminded him of being a child, spinning around in any chair that would let him and then feeling like he was going to be sick and suddenly having Scott fretting over him like a second mother.
He brought the coffee up to his mouth, his gaze lowering, sipping at the drink that was slowly but surely turning cold. He missed his childhood. He missed being that close to his brother.
He noticed something was wrong the minute he heard the sound of a liquid hitting a computer. Like clockwork, he took his own laptop and tablet and put them away in their own cases and close to his side, the cup of coffee easily becoming forgotten as a fight seemed to break out.
He grew visibly uncomfortable, sinking farther into his booth because he didn't think he could leave without getting caught up in that mess. Then something - or rather someone - crashed into the cafe through the front window.
It made Ivan jump. His eyes briefly, for just a few seconds, glowed white as his powers reacted to his startle before dying down because he wasn't necessarily in danger.
His first thought was to leave, to get out of there. His second thought was to see if anyone was okay. He wanted to listen to the first thought. He wasn't Sparrow right now. What good could he do as himself?
Then the person started to talk and Ivan frowned, focusing on him until he recognized him. Tim. He then became both concerned for his friend and concerned that whatever had hit his friend would soon be coming to the cafe. He needed to get changed. He grabbed his bags and started to back up toward the back door, hoping everyone's focus would be on Tim and no one would notice him sneaking out.

[attr="class","box1"]He stopped turning around in circles on the stool, his eyes shifting to the left, where the guards were located, and then to the right of him, where the young man in the corner of the cafe was still sitting in before he fixed his eyes to the front of the cafe. Although, he may have been focusing at what was in front of him, he had excellent peripheral vision. Even then, the slightest noise from all sides would make his ears perk, and causing him to look. The cyber cafe seemed to be a nice place. It was quiet, even though there were a few kids who were thankfully not obnoxiously loud. It wasn't as quiet as a library, but he was beginning to like it. He glanced briefly at the young man again, but his attention snapped back toward the front window when he heard a faint noise coming from the outside.
Was that...? He blinked, raising an eyebrow when he noticed the light-covered human being flying toward the front window. He rolled his eyes, not looking surprised as he continued to sit there as everyone else quickly moved out of the way before the speeding human meteor crashed into the cafe.
He sat there, crossing his arms. While everyone else was startled as they stared in confusion, awe, or shock, Kane, on the other hand, looked at Smith with an amused expression. He scoffed, “Wow, man. The amount of windows you've been crashing through – all this week, I might add – is rather concerning, buddy.”
His enhanced hearing first picked up the sounds of someone moving out of their booth, and through his peripheral vision, he noticed the young man who sat in the corner, grabbing his things and heading to the back door. He turned his head slightly to watch him, and waited for a few seconds when he went outside. With the place becoming rather hectic after Smith crashed through the window, going out the back seemed like a good idea right now to escape.
He glanced back at Smith as he slowly moved off of the stool and stood up, grinning a bit at him.
“Well...have fun...fighting or whatever...see you later, Tim,” He waved his hand a little and headed out the back door.
He took a few steps out into a small parking lot for the employees. It was already a lot more quieter outside than it was inside at the moment. He glanced around, sniffing the air, but it didn't take him long to spot him.

"Well Seb," Tim said as he picked himself off and let out a pulse of energy to clean himself off, "That is actually exactly why we have the Collateral Damage Fund. Although that's not going to fix the one back at the lab..." He noticed Ivan sneaking out the backdoor, and decided to try and just let him be. Still though, he quietly told Alice to send him a message saying that redo pizza or coffee or whatever was on him after all this. "Seriously though. Who makes a robot with an odd number of legs? It's asymmetric. Throws off all the balance. That'll be how I stop him." The bystanders all cheered as Tim rocketed out. Then all went "Oooh!" in sympathy pain as he smashed back in again. "Six limbs. There's six limbs. That explains things a little better." he caught the eye of a couple bystanders and winked at them. "Don't worry about it. I got this." He wasn't too concerned. He'd been surprised a couple times, but it looked like Ivan was coming to help, maybe Seb. Even then, he was pretty sure he could get this taken care of relatively soon. He shot back out, and soon had the fight moved to the Abandoned Warehouse District. "What does it take for you to get the hint?" the villain shouted. "I mean, I'm not really sure. Really depends on how many other arms you got in there. Are they going to have to put a parental warning on the news report of this beatdown I'm about to dish out? I've heard of some crazy stuff the Japanese get into." Ivan Stane, and @lupinus

| He needed to help out - he needed to keep people safe. He needed to keep his friend safe. He pushed open the back exit and quickly left the building, glancing around multiple times to make sure he was alone. He concentrated, feeling a sort of detachment from his own body. He focused on feeling light almost like a feather. He clutched tightly onto his belongings and they transformed into wind along with his body and clothes.
He re-materialized in his apartment, stumbling to the ground and being greeted by two wagging tails and wet licks against his cheeks. He shooed Apex and Sparky away and pushed himself to his feet, his breathing a bit harder than he would have liked. His apartment wasn't that close to the cyber cafe. It took far more energy than he would have liked to travel to and from using his powers.
He quickly wiped off his face with a towel, removing both dog spit and his own blood - he wasn't surprised to find his nose bleeding. He then proceeded to get changed as fast as he could muster. At one point he fell to the ground and had to quickly jump back up before Sparky, who had excitedly barked, decided to try to wrestle him.
Once he put his mask on, he was truly Sparrow. He then transformed into wind and re-materialized back at the cafe, near the back exit, almost the exact spot he'd left. He stumbled, his head swimming, nose bleeding, and dear God, he didn't want to throw up. He held still, kneeling on the ground, taking in deep breaths and slowly letting them out until the nausea passed.
Ivan pushed himself back up but frowned. It didn't sound like the fight was close to the cafe anymore. Did Tim get himself thrown again? The thought of his friend possibly being used as a human volleyball by some villain was both hilarious and worrying to him. He didn't plan to tell Tim which he found it more of.
He still needed a plan. He didn't hear any sirens yet - where were the police? Were any civilians injured? He needed to find out. He needed to-- He froze, clearly startled, like a deer caught in headlights when he turned and saw that he wasn't alone. He recognized the man as the one who had been swiveling in his seat. Oh God, how long had he been standing there?
"Um," his mind tried to work, tried to think of something to say, tried to convince himself that he didn't need to run away. Instead he lamely added, "Hi?"

[attr="class","box1"]He looked on silently as he watched how the younger man was knelt down on the ground after watching as he re-materialized where his scent was left off at. 'Oh...a super who can teleport, I guess.' Kane thought. He picked up the sent of blood, but it was a small amount. He noticed how the young man changed into something else, along with a mask. He grinned a little, while thinking, One of those types of supers, he paused, thinking back to what Smith said while in the cafe after Surge responded to him about the Collateral Damage Fund, and wondered if Smith knew the masked super. Speaking of the damage fund, he knew the replacement of those windows will probably be coming out of Smith's paycheck. ARF is probably tired of using their insurance for any damages he causes inside the facility by now...
Tilting his head slightly, he heard how the fight soon moved away from the cafe to some other location, which he could easily find. He was bored, and he honestly wanted to see the fight, if he can ditch his security detail. At least he can say he helped Smith if it looked like he needed help with Doctor Robotnik there.
When the young man he followed out here finally noticed him, Kane blinked for a moment when he obviously startled him when Sparrow turned around. He waved at him. “Oh, hey...um...” He looked to where he could track the fight down. “Yeah...” He rubbed at his beard. “If you're one of Tim's buddies, I can help you locate him and the stupid ass villain he's fighting...if you want me to, that is.”
He shrugged. “It's cool if you don't...I'm just - “ He looked over his shoulder to look behind him toward the exit door. If he was lucky, the two guards would be focused on making sure everyone was okay before they looked for him. He glanced back toward Ivan. “I'm not much into this superhero business like Tim is, but, since I'm out here, I might as well go and make sure he doesn't get into too much trouble.” He chuckled.

Six. Limbs. So it was some kind of... insecto-pod. "YOU HAVE THREATENED INSECTRON FOR THE LAST TIME!" Yep, got it in one. "Listen, buddy, please tell me you don't have a bunch of ants or something in there because I just got thrown into a coffee bar and I might have got some frappé on me and those ants would go bonkers for it. "What? Why on earth would I--" There it was. The reason he bantered back and forth with the villains he fought. Usually, one of two things would happen. They'd banter back and they'd both have something of a good time, or the villain would get mildly confused by Tim's ramblings, giving him an opening. A blast of concentrated light set Insectron staggering back. The limbs, though, they were quick. One managed to snake itself around Tim's leg and yank him around a little bit. "Whoawhoawhoa! Just let's lay off on the shaking!" He got a moment of clarity to focus, and shifted his energy to electricity. He figured if he could overload it, it would short circuit or something and let him go. He was honestly, pun definitely intended, shocked to discover that Insectron had insulated his robot limbs. "Wow. I'm shocked. Honestly, I am. Nice foresight." "INSECTRON IS A GENIUS! WHY WOULD I NOT PROVIDE MY INSECTIPOD WITH EVERY PROTECTION? AND NOW, SURGE, THE NUMBER OF YOUR LIMBS--" Another robot limb snaked around and snagged his arm, then another grabbed his other leg, and before he realized it, all four of his limbs were held in a vise-like grip of steel. "WILL SOON BE REDUCED BY FOUR!" "...well shit." That's when they started to pull. Insectron had a flair for the dramatic, though, so it was a slow pull. In addition to that, the pod had to balance on only two legs, making it somewhat precarious. Tim couldn't take advantage of it in his state, but maybe... "Y'know a Sparrow bringing a strong breeze to knock this bug down would be really nice right about now! Or whenever, I guess, it's not like I'm being pulled in four directions at once!" Ivan Stane

| This guy apparently knew Tim, but Tim's identity was also - stupidly, in Ivan's opinion - public so it wouldn't have been too hard to pretend to know him. Ivan noticed him glance back toward the cafe. Had he noticed the two suspicious people earlier? His curiosity still wanted him to find out if they'd been casing the cafe or if more was afoot. However, Tim was in danger and thus his priority.
"I... Alright," he replied, guessing that this man must have had some way to locate Tim or else he wouldn't have offered. That was, of course, if he was going to take him at face value which he never did. He always took information with a grain of salt because he knew how easily it was to lie.
"Surge is always needing his ass saved," he added with an attempt at a nonchalant shrug but his worry for his friend was etched into his features and the nonchalance didn't quite work. It was also an exaggeration - Tim was perfectly capable of holding his own against a villain and he knew that. "Sometimes I think he's married to trouble." It was an attempt at a joke but his concern ruined the tone.
He also knew he didn't have to refer to Tim by his codename but he made an effort to only use codenames when he was Sparrow. He didn't want to risk slipping up with someone's secret identity just because he was used to using Tim's public one.
"I'm Sparrow," he explained awkwardly because he was awkward, "By the way." Introductions weren't his specialty. He didn't often like meeting new people. All that just increased his natural awkwardness. "How - How do you intend to find him?"
