Meet My Characters!
Below you’ll find all my characters, together with short descriptions of their personalities, values, and current goals, as well as a listing of significant relationships that they currently have. If you’d like your character to be added to the relationship list, simply reply to this thread with where you think they’ll fit. Please do also reply to this thread (or message me in Discord) if you have ideas for our characters to interact. I’m always up for more threads!
As a note, the “Family” category isn’t a descriptor of blood relation. Rather, this category is for people that character considers to be their family, whether related by blood or not. Therefore, people that aren’t blood relations may be in there, and people who are blood relations may be excluded.
Timothy Smith
“Surge”
Timothy Smith is the energetic and science-obsessed genius hero of Aegis. Feeling responsible for the death of his parents and the creation of the villain Nihilo, he focuses on his self-imposed penance; helping as many people as he can and bringing Nihilo under control. He hopes to cure Nihilo and reform him, believing in some part that if he can save the dark parts of his heart that were sheared away from him, there may be hope for his soul after all. The people he considers to be family and friends are incredibly essential to him. They help keep him grounded when he indulges his more self-destructive tendencies.

Plans
Currently, my plans for Tim involve exploring his relationship with Adara and his friends. He’s dealing with the guilt he feels over his parents’ death, but slowly getting better. I have some spoiler my plans for the future, but overall that’s my plot.
Nihilo
Born from the dark impulses in Timothy Smith’s heart at the time of the accident that gave him powers, Nihilo is a being in near-constant pain, and because of that near-constant rage. Nihilo’s body is made up of what seems to be antimatter with unique properties, and as such that means that everything that is made of standard matter or energy burns him like acid. He wants to inflict the pain he feels on the rest of the world, and kill Timothy Smith, which he believes may be able to convert his body into standard matter. Currently, he’s been rescued from Aegis detention by Ryan Amador and Astraica Devonlight and is working for the Cabal, in exchange mainly for the promise of a cure for his condition, and is having to deal with actually making these disgusting things called “friends” and the fact that there’s something more building with Astraica. He is very rough and prickly, but underneath it all, if he would let himself admit it, he cares deeply for those who have shown that they care for him.

Nihilo is currently working for Perses and the Cabal. It’s no real secret that eventually he won’t be, and I plan for his painful condition to be cured, leading him to doubt the Cabal seriously and become more stable.
Alice
The Technological Singularity is a concept defined as the point where technology becomes so advanced and intelligent that it becomes self aware and gains free will. Timothy Smith made that happen one drunken night before his 23rd birthday. And he doesn’t remember how. That was the birth of Alice, her name taken from an acronym for Amplified Light Interface and Computational Entity. Originally designed to be just a digital assistant, similar to Siri or Alexa, but with a holographic interface, Tim’s drunken coding gave her something they call the “emotional matrix,” a set of code that gave Alice real emotions. Designed to grow, learn, change, and upgrade and edit her own code as a subroutine, it wasn’t long before Alice’s code changed and evolved from what Tim had originally programmed, making reverse-engineering what he did impossible.
Alice currently works for Aegis, maintaining and operating most of their digital systems. While she’s kept it a closely guarded secret from all but a few, recently the fact that she is self-aware was revealed to everyone in Aegis.
Alice is friendly, but very protective of her family and friends, and worries what will happen to them if someone tries to get to her through them. After watching Arthur Glass, a man she considered a friend, supposedly die in front of her, she was confronted with the fact that all of her loved ones were mortal, and she arguably was not, and has been struggling with feeling separated and different, in a bad way, from those she cares about. To combat this, she and her friend Andi are in the process of developing a body for Alice so she can experience life in a way closer to what most people do.

Alice is getting a body made for her by Andi and Tim! Getting used to it is going to be the next big thing she tackles.
Tayla Smith
“Tenebra”
In another world, Timothy Smith was born Tayla Smith. They lived very similar lives up until the point of the explosion that gave them their powers and killed their parents. While Timothy threw himself into work as a self-imposed penance, Tayla, in her universe, decided she was going to find a world where it never happened.
Her first attempt didn’t go well. She landed in a world ruled by a vicious tyrant, who tortured her, destroying both her powers and her sense of touch. Escaping with the help of a resistance movement, she made a suit to restore some of her lost sense and tried again, ending up in the world we focus on. Her goals have changed now, though. The world with the tyrant seemed to be further along in time than the world she found herself in, so she made it her aim to find the tyrant before he becomes a world-conquering dictator, and kill him.
Tayla is fairly cynical, and isn’t quick to trust, although she’s trying to get better. Adjusting to this new world has been rough, but she’s managing. Without the ability to feel pain, she’s often very brash and rushes into things without worrying about how it could hurt her, because she’s not going to feel it.

Tayla is trying to live a somewhat normal life, but still wants to track down the Tyrant from the universe she jumped from. Her current lead points her to Perses, which is sure to go well.
Bradley Alans
“Krackshot”
Bradley Alans is one of the five founding Pillars of Aegis, and one of only two to still be serving. Having run away to join the army and be a hero at a young age with his sweetheart, Madeline Voclain, he proved himself on the battlefield and became a world renowned hero. He caused problems for himself when he revealed his identity to the world, and then discovered that Madeline was pregnant with his child. Further mistakes led him to find himself under the thumb of the mysterious Perses in order to keep his son, Caleb, and the woman he loved safe. No one has discovered this blackmail, and those mistakes have made him a very cautious man. That doesn’t mean he isn’t friendly and understanding, but he is always on guard against anything that may conspire to endanger Caleb and Madeline.

Bradley is being blackmailed by Perses and the Cabal. His son Caleb is part of the Cabal, and to make sure he stays safe, Bradley is feeding him information. This will come to a head at some point in the future. Caleb does not know that Bradley is his “deadbeat” dad.
Brigadier General John Elsven
“Colonel”
Brigadier General John Elsven, better known as Colonel, is the one who initially had the idea for starting Aegis, and is one of its founding Pillars, and one of two still serving in that role. Chosen for a secret government project aimed at developing super soldiers, he was given powers and quickly put them to good use helping people during the Vietnam War. He's overseen Aegis through all its trials over the years, and is regarded as a wise and understanding leader. He's perfectly willing to bend the rules when it comes to laws and regulations he finds irrational, finding a way to thread the needle to keep himself and Aegis out of trouble. Officially, he stands behind the vigilante laws, but unofficially, everyone is pretty sure that he does what he can to help the good ones on their way and stay out of prison, much to the chagrin of some of the other Pillars.
He never married or had any children, instead viewing Aegis as his legacy, his way to make the world a better place after he's gone. He makes no secret that he's chosen his successor as Pillar, but refuses to say who it is, and has no plans on retiring any time soon, so long as he can still get out of bed and make it in to work.

Ophelia Courtney
“Catalyst”
Ophelia is a self-made woman who grew up on the streets. After discovering her ability to augment powers in a tragic way, she ran away from home at a young age and soon found herself embroiled in the criminal underbelly of Astaria, where she learned that the only one you can really rely on is yourself. Over the years, while she doesn't have a "crime family" and isn't about to challenge the major criminal players, she's built her own nice little network, primarily around boosting other people's powers for a limited time, as well as drug running and general heists and thievery. When you first meet her, she'll be the nicest person you've ever met, but rest assured, she's just trying to figure out what you want, what you need, and how she can turn that into a profit.

Riley Jackson
“Breakneck”
Riley Jackson values two things incredibly highly. Her relationship with her friends, and some decent shenanigans, which her super speed lets her get into very quickly. Left tied to the door of a foster office when she was two, Riley grew up feeling like no one wanted her, and ran away when she was twelve. But on April first, 2013, her life changed for the better when she met the Amadors. She has never told anyone, but they were the first people she'd met who actually treated her like she was valued and wanted, and their father, Perses, was everything she thought a father should be. She eagerly accepted a job in a secret organization known as the Cabal when he offered when she turned 18, and begged to be able to come along with the Amadors to Astaria when they came over from Australia.
Despite her rough childhood, she still managed to maintain a cheerful, hopeful disposition, and cares deeply for all the friends she's made in the Cabal. Fiercely loyal to Perses, if he tells her to do something, she will do it without hesitation, trusting that he knows best and is making the world a better place. This does include killing, and while she puts on a brave face and acts like it doesn't bother her, in reality some things that she's done haunt her. Her faith in Perses has never wavered, and she believes that good people sometimes need to do bad things to make the world better, and if she's one of those good people, she'll do what she has to.
