“Come on come on come on! Xander, I’m hungry! Walk faster!” Clad in shorts, a well-fit top, and wearing sunglasses and sneakers, Riley bounced impatiently on the sidewalk while she waited for her friend to catch up. She had to do that a lot. Moving fast was her thing, and it just wasn’t in her nature to take anything slow. After much pestering, she’d convinced her friend Xander Amador to leave the secret Cabal headquarters with her and get lunch at a restaurant in town. “There’s a restaurant I saw named Shenanigans! We have to eat there! It’s like it was made for us!” She looked over her shoulder toward the restaurant, watching the lunch rush starting to head in, and bit her lip as she thought about the possibility of the place filling up before they could get a seat. She narrowed her eyes, and with a rush of wind, she was gone. A moment later, and another rush of wind, and she was back at Xander’s side. ”I tied some shoelaces together to buy us some time. Still, you gotta hurry up, slowpoke!” Xander Amador

Xander laughed and playfully rolled his eyes. He'd missed spending time with her and just having fun. There hadn't been much fun to have in Astaria since he'd arrived here. He'd spent some time with his siblings, a little with his dad but not as much as he was used to, and then of course there was Samson. But majority of his time had still been devoted to Cabal work. And as someone who thrived on having a social life and fun things to do - saving the world was fun but in a limited sense - being cooped up at the Institute majority of the time was so boring.
"Not everyone is fast like you, Speedy," he threw back at Riley, a grin clear on his face. He cocked an eyebrow when she said the name of the restaurant. That explained why it was just the two of them. They were going to get into trouble and there was no better Amador at causing trouble than Xander.
"With a name like that," he mused, "They're basically asking for trouble."
He was used to her running off and didn't bat an eye as she did so, though he did give her a questioning look when she returned. He snorted and didn't even try to muffle his laughter, earning them a few odd looks.
"Alright I'm coming, sheesh," he said, though there was no actual annoyance to his words. He picked up his pace, trying hard not to laugh when someone did in fact trip because their shoelaces were tied together. He ushered Riley into the restaurant before anyone could look at them suspiciously.
He got them a table for two and took his seat, giving her a cheeky grin. "Happy now, Ms. Impatient?" | ... there was a time, i used to look into my father's eyes. in a happy home, i was a king, i had a golden throne ... frequency |

Riley did not hide her laugh when someone tripped, but she did refrain from pointing at the poor sap who tripped on his united shoelaces. You had to be able to laugh at yourself if you were going to get by in the world. Life was too rough in general to take it seriously. That's why Xander was one of her best friends. He didn't take things too seriously. "Happy-ER." she insisted as she took her seat. She pulled her glucometer out of her purse and began the process of poking her finger and checking her blood sugar. Given the amount of people here, even though they were seated, Riley was pretty confident that there was going to be a wait for their food, and she wanted to make sure that she was okay, or if she needed to eat the fruit snacks she had in her purse to keep things balanced. "Once we get our burgers I'll really be happy. Everything looked good, she could wait a bit. If she could be patient. But now they were seated, the waiter was sure to come by soon, and as such there was no time crunch, so she could relax a bit. She sighed happily as she leaned back in her chair. "It's been way too long since we've done something like this. And I'm talking this, specifically. Just going out to eat. I mean, when was the last time we did something fun? I've run all over this city on missions and I haven't had a chance to stop at the zoo or the aquarium or anything." She put her glucometer away and then slapped the table. "We need to do something. Something fun. Something awesome." Xander Amador

He started looking at the menu in front of her when she pricked her finger to check her blood sugar, used to her doing it and not thinking much of it because to him it was normal - as he thought it should've been for anyone who might've caught a glimpse. He still didn't fully understand how she could prick herself so easily without so much of a grimace, even if she had years of experience now.
He had years of experience being poked and prodded during physical exams and especially when they were trying to figure out his powers and he still hated needles. He'd managed to stop fainting when he saw them and knew they were for him but he still got incredibly dizzy and lightheaded.
"Dios," he said after she mentioned the burgers, grinning because her happiness and excitement had always felt so infectious to him. "I missed your energy." He'd never met anyone that could match her almost constant level of energy. He thought he was the only one out of his siblings to get the closest and even then he couldn't match her.
But that meant she could easily keep up with him and he'd missed that. He'd missed having someone who just wanted to goof off and not be focused on work so much. Between her and Samson, he was starting to think he'd actually enjoy his time in Astaria.
He cocked a playful eyebrow at her sigh, looking up over the menu, resting that against his chin as she spoke. She had a point. And at least she had gotten out of the Institute more. He'd been cooped up a lot, training and practicing. Some days he wasn't so sure just what exactly he was still training for.
"True," he replied as he set his menu down on the table in front of him, "The most fun I've had since coming here has been with Samson." He smirked knowingly and wiggled his eyebrows at her, having already mentioned his new boyfriend to her. He expected the same, if not a similar, reaction he'd get from any of his siblings who most certainly weren't interested in the kind of fun he was referring to.
Xander sighed, though. "But even that was more recent. I feel so... I don't know caged here. I don't remember Dad wanting me to spend so much time at uh... home-" The specification was more because he couldn't say headquarters. "Back in Sydney as he does here."
His lips curled into a grin at her instance that they needed to do something, specifically something fun. "You got anything in mind or should we just wing it?" | ... don't let me go, let me go, i beg you. i don't wanna face the world on my own ... frequency |

Riley rolled her eyes when he mentioned Samson. He was obsessed, which wasn't really a bad thing, but still. She considered it her job to give him crap about it. "Something fun where everyone stays relatively fully clothed. I'm not against pantsing someone if the right opportunity presents itself." He was right though. Perses had been unusually restrictive since they came to the states. A lot less opportunities to go out and about if it wasn't specifically related to a mission, and it sounded like Xander hadn't gotten to go on a lot of missions himself. Really most of her missions had been errands, running to grab one thing or another and bringing it back to base. Legally or not, Riley didn't care, she trusted Perses knew what he was doing. That's why he sent her, she was fast enough to get away without being seen with whatever it was that needed to be retrieved. "I'm thinking we need to do some sort of prank. Something big against someone that's a real arse. Like... like..." She paused, screwing up her face into twisted mask of concentration as she tried to pick a target. The waitress surprised her when she approached. "Oh! Right. Um I'll take five of your Big Beefy Belly Buster Burger meals, please. Yes. Five. All for me. Trust me, I need it. I'm a growing girl." After getting Xander's order, and giving another odd look to Riley, she left to get their food. "I got it," Riley hissed in a whisper across the table, leaning forward over the silverware so they wouldn't be heard. "Aegis. Lets pull some sort of massive prank on Aegis. I'm not sure what, it'll have to be low-risk, low consequences, but seeing those hypocritical assholes just confused as hell because of something we did would be golden." Xander Amador
