Ivan was getting tired - real tired - of running into the same Aegis guy over and over and over again. He missed Tim. He wasn't sure what was going on with Aegis - maybe Tim had "failed" to arrest him and bring him in one too many times. Whatever it was, he didn't appreciate having a god damn Pillar on his tail. He'd already managed to evade the Phantom multiple times - being able to turn into wind helped - but he kept showing up.
He was starting to think this guy was predicting where he'd land, where he'd show him. He should have been flattered that someone put that much time into finding him. Instead he was extremely irritated.
Haven at night wasn't the best place for a chase either. It was the dimmest lit part of the city and seeing in the dark wasn't a power he had. One might have thought he could easily use that to his advantage, as the one being chased, but that was, like most things, easier said than done.
He materialized into an abandoned apartment complex, having turned into wind to get through a broken wind. He could feel his head protesting, dizziness creeping up. He thought about getting his phone out and texting Tim. His mind went over the names of everyone he could've contacted for help. Then he became even more stubbornly determined not to bring them into his crap.
The Phantom was merely being a nuisance. He'd evaded Aegis plenty of times which was impressive considering how much he antagonized them and purposefully annoyed them. He could get away again this time, he was certain of it. Then it was home and hopefully some sleep.
He felt a presence behind him and jumped, turning around and darting back several paces. He really hated being snuck up on - stupid phasing.
"Son of a bitch!" he cursed, eyes flashing white in response to his startle. He groaned. He was really tired of this. "Fuck, don't you have a hobby?!" | ... I am not a stranger to the dark. hide away, they say 'cause we don't want your broken parts ... sparrow |

Abraham had gained a reputation among Aegis as being hard on unaffiliated, and thus illegal, vigilantes. It wasn't without warrant, of course, but what most people seemed to forget - or perhaps they'd just never paid enough attention - when a vigilante was arrested, he was most often than not the first person to offer them a position in Aegis rather than a jail cell. It was how he'd convinced Oliver Mitchell to join, training the fellow hero personally, for example.
He planned to give the same choice to Sparrow. Most would have assumed the kid would never agree to join Aegis - he had a reputation for disliking the team after all. But Abraham had a feeling a kid like Sparrow really didn't want to go to jail. Though a part of him admittedly wanted to see the look on Tim's face if the vigilante that was constantly "slipping past" him got thrown in jail.
He didn't believe Tim for a second that these vigilantes kept giving him the slip. He'd started to think John was turning a blind eye, purposefully, to the vigilantes as well. He didn't care that the vigilantes were doing good work - They could've been doing even better work as members of Aegis. But he didn't care. They were breaking the law and publicly getting away with it. Tim and John were two faces very much associated with Aegis publicly.
He thought their leniency tarnished the respect and trust Aegis had garnered from people. It wasn't like the covert unit he led on his own - what they did remained out of the public's eye. And he'd worked so hard for years to make sure Aegis came off as the respectable, trustworthy hero group he believed it was and it should've been.
After all he knew too well what distrust of Aegis could lead to. His heart still held the scars.
Abraham phased through the wall easily, his feet gently setting down on the floor of the abandoned apartment complex. He hadn't seen Sparrow enter here but they'd been dancing long enough that the kid was becoming predictable. He'd been starting to observe limitations to his powers.
"I'm on the clock," he replied when asked about a hobby, "You look tired, kid." He wasn't just saying that either. He thought the wind manipulator was getting close to the current limits of his powers, his body. He took a step forward. "I suggest you stand down before you pass out."

He looked tired? He looked tired? Ivan wondered if the Phantom could see the no shit look on his face even with his domino mask on. Of course he was tired! He'd been chased how many days in a row, having to avoid this asshole? It was exhausting, it was time consuming, and he was certain he hadn't done anything to deserve the stress it brought.
The Phantom took a step forward and Ivan stumbled two steps back, holding a glowing hand out. "If you think I'm going to let you arrest me," he started and a current of wind started to gather and swirl around them, "Then you have another thing coming." He didn't register the trickle of blood that started to trail from his nose. He was too focused on wanting to get away.
Both hands were glowing now.
"Honestly just because something's the law," he pointed out, not bothering to hide his irritability. "Doesn't mean it's good." He was specifically referring to the laws against unaffiliated vigilantes and heroes but he was well aware he could have picked out a bunch of laws and labeled them as wrong. He'd done that once and annoyed a professor back in college.
The trickle of blood reached his lips. He tasted it.
He gathered the wind closer then threw it all at the older man. He knew he could very easily phase through it but he hoped it'd work as a distraction at the very least. His mind blurred with dizziness as he threw the wind but he tried to push past that, turning on his heels and bolting. He managed to turn into wind for a second before something didn't feel right.
He re-materialized down the hall, stumbling and coughing. He caught himself on his hands and knees. He was distinctly aware of the blood that speckled the ground after he coughed. Crap. | ... I AM NOT A STRANGER TO THE DARK. HIDE AWAY, THEY SAY 'CAUSE WE DON'T WANT YOUR BROKEN PARTS ... sparrow |

Abraham started to sigh - honestly why was this kid being so stubborn? - but stopped short when he noticed the blood. The lighting wasn't the best - the glow of Sparrow's powers and the streetlamp outside were the only sources of it actually. But of course he noticed the blood. He was trained to.
"Kid, you need to calm down," he said, holding a hand up in front of him. He understood how this could be stressful and while he questioned why Sparrow was being so stubborn, he honestly understood that as well. What he also understood was limitations. He'd seen them; he'd endured them. He knew the toll they could take.
He resisted the urge to roll his eyes at Sparrow's comment on the law. God, it sounded like something Dimitri would've said back before he'd left. Thinking about that wasn't going to help the current situation at all, though. There was a point to what the younger man said, of course. There was always a point to statements like that. Just as always, however, he wasn't in the mood to debate that or even so much as comment on it.
He'd tried having that debate years ago. He wasn't in the mood for it now - and Sparrow didn't seem to be in the shape for it.
Abraham phased through the gust of wind easily. Sparrow had to have known that attempt would do nothing, that it'd be fruitless. That was when he saw him stumble, heard him cough. Something was wrong.
He moved quickly, dropping to his knees by Sparrow's side. Was that blood on the ground? The lighting made it harder to tell here. He moved to rest a hand on the young man's shoulder, saying, "Shh, you're going to be okay. Focus on breathing. Inhale - deep breaths - then slowly exhale." | ... the joy and the chaos, the demons we're made of. i'd be so lost if you left me alone ... the phantom |

Would it be dramatic if he thought this was what dying must have felt like? He knew it wasn't. He'd pushed himself harder before, especially when he'd first gotten his powers or learned how to use them to fly. It'd been miserable. Despite how, well, crappy he felt now, in the back of his head he was aware he'd felt worse.
His shoulders shook, hands flat against the ground as he tried to steady himself but his head kept swimming, the room kept spinning. He needed to get up. He didn't think the Phantom was likely to give him a moment to catch his breath or let him go. The man had a reputation after all. Admittedly he didn't know how much of that reputation was deserved and how much of it was the media exaggerating but that wasn't really something he could risk or debate right now.
Someone was at his side, a hand was on his shoulder. He heard the Phantom's voice but focusing on his exact words was hard. His head felt so dizzy. If he stood, there was a chance he'd only fall back down. But he needed to get out of here. He was already expecting that hand on his shoulder to turn into cuffs around his wrists.
He wasn't going to go to jail, especially not for doing what he believed was right.
His hand glowed white and Ivan pushed a sudden, hard gust of wind at where he knew the Phantom was. His stomach churned. He pushed himself quickly to his feet but as soon as he was up, his head felt far too light and his legs felt far too weak, at the same time his body felt far too heavy. The world spun and turned to darkness. | ... I AM NOT A STRANGER TO THE DARK. HIDE AWAY, THEY SAY 'CAUSE WE DON'T WANT YOUR BROKEN PARTS ... sparrow |

Things unsurprisingly didn't go as planned. A gust of wind shoved him back. He should've seen it coming, he really should've. But his focus had been on Sparrow and the amount of blood coming from him. By the time he registered that distinct white glow, it was too late to react, too late to phase. The wind slammed into him - and ironically yes, it knocked the breath out of his lungs. He fell hard onto the decrypted floor, barely noting the way the floor creaked at the impact.
He groaned, looking up in time to see Sparrow collapse. Even with his flight, he'd been pushed too far away to catch him in time.
No, no, no. He pushed himself to his feet and moved fast, dropping down to his knees when he was close enough again. He gingerly pulled the young man into his arms, placing two fingers as his pulse point. He was alive, thank God - breathing, his heart was beating.
Abraham let out a heavy sigh, despite the fact that he knew a new challenge presented itself. He knew what would be expected of him. He'd take the vigilante in and Sparrow would wake up in an Aegis holding cell. Then he'd sit down and have a discussion with him about his options, one of which being joining Aegis. That was what everyone would expect of him. He had a reputation, after all, and it wasn't undeserved.
He stood up, using his enhanced strength to easily hold the young man in his arms, Sparrow's head unconsciously resting against his shoulder.
He knew what was expected of him. He knew he would expect it of anyone else from Aegis. He knew it would be the right thing to do. He knew it didn't feel right.
He carried the vigilante to the window they'd both entered from. He looked down at him, catching a small grimace. Even unconscious, Sparrow was clearly in pain.
Damn it.
He thought of recruiting Zane and Abel, Oliver and Patrick.
He was going to regret this.
Gently cradling the vigilante in his arms, he phased them both through the wall rather than trying to fit through the window. He then proceeded to fly...
