ABILITIES: Null Sound Field: Colonel has the ability to project a field that nullifies all sound within it. He can vary the size of this field, ranging from just large enough to encompass himself, to entire rooms. With effort, he can make it larger.
Transparency: Colonel can turn every part of his body completely transparent. This isn't true invisibility, as light can still reflect off of parts of his body if the angle hits right, but it does make it harder for him to be seen.
SKILLS: Colonel possesses the rank of Brigadier General in the army, and all the rights and privileges that come with that. He also has the military training that goes along with that, including hand to hand combat, various ranged and close range weaponry, and military and special ops tactics.
Colonel is very spry, able to jump, climb, and otherwise parkour around his surroundings with a skill that comes close to that of a trained gymnast, the result of many years of training and practice.
While his administrative duties as a Pillar of Aegis take up a lot of his time, he does make time for hobbies, and as such he's a damn fine knitter.
WEAKNESSES: Colonel's age is probably his largest weakness at the moment. Despite being incredibly physically fit, his age is catching up to him, and it takes longer for him to heal from injuries if superhuman healing abilities aren't in play.
Colonel's transparency and anti-sound field are dependant on his concentration. If his focus is disrupted, the transparency can fade, and the null sound field can start to allow sound to be heard again, at first dull and muffled, but if the concentration continues to be broken, full sound can be restored.
Colonel's physiology, while impressive for someone in their late eighties, is still human. He's not bulletproof, he will still take damage and is just as susceptible to pathogens as everyone else.
He possesses and old injury in his left shoulder from an accident in the service. Occasionally, it will flare up. It often aches when there's weather coming.

Appearance
GENERAL: Colonel is very physically fit, despite his advanced age. His hair has gone white, and he keeps himself clean-shaven. He dresses simply, usually a button-down shirt or t-shirt, and jeans or slacks, depending on what he's feeling like or what he's going to do be doing. His age hasn't damaged his posture whatsoever, walking tall and straight wherever he goes, giving off a sense of the authority his rank affords, but the kind smile on his face usually helps to make people feel not quite so intimidated.
COSTUME: Colonel, which he became something of the de-facto leader of the Pillars, never considered himself the front man when it came to actual missions. His uniform consists of tactical military gear, including a kevlar vest, modified to minimize bulk and not hamper his mobility. He carries several weapons on his person, including a combat knife, stun baton, and a handgun, which can fire both lethal and nonlethal rounds. He has several different sets of gear all in different types of camouflage, which he will choose from depending on the type of environment he's going to be operating in for that mission. His transparency ability is incredibly useful and his go-to for stealth, but he doesn't count on it being his own method of remaining undetected.

Personality
For all the authority he possesses, Colonel is still very kind, patient, and understanding, his disposition having continually mellowed with age like a fine wine. He's straightforward, but tries to have a gentle firmness.
He's not above using his abilities for a little mischief and mayhem, and believes the spirit of the law is more important than the letter of it, often bending over backwards to make sure that he can slip through the legal loopholes he must to keep himself above board, while letting people doing good that isn't entirely legal slip by. While generally optimistic, he's no stranger to life and its hardships, and isn't afraid to make hard decisions when necessary, and does so with conviction.

History
Born to Danish immigrants in Minnesota, John Elsven lived the american dream growing up. A star athlete on his school football team, he had dreams of one day making a team in the National Football League, maybe even joining that up-and-coming team that Minnesota itself was rumored to get.
Sadly, all those dreams would be dashed when the Vietnam war started and John was drafted into the army. An accident during a live-fire exercise would leave him wounded, and unable to return to football and unfit for duty.
Before he could return home, he was presented with an opportunity. Everyone knew Superpowers were a thing. John was approached by a covert division of the army and offered the opportunity to still serve his country as s super soldier.
John was one of several experimental attempts. Others focused on strength and speed, but John's powers focused on covert ops. The only true success from the operation, it was shut down, but with a fresh new promotion to the position of Colonel to keep him quiet about it until much much later, John was back on the front lines in 'Nam.
There, he quickly found that there was a need. There were people that needed to be protected. People that needed a shield between them and those with more power than them that wanted to hurt them. Together with five other heroes he met, he founded Aegis there in the jungles.
Superpowered people banding together understandably scared world leaders, who decided that they needed oversight. In 1970, John retired and received a final promotion to Brigadier General, in order to help lead this new organization he'd helped found, now under the oversight of the UN, and the first of several offically recognized superhero organizations. He made his identity public to bolster public support, and together the five pillars set Astaria, Oregon as their headquarters and new home.
The years went on, and Aegis grew. Colonel lost friends and made new ones. Getting on in years, Colonel is eyeing retirement, but still feels he had more to do before the time truly comes to pass his position down to someone else.
