here's a picture of the frat house for some imagery! click me! EDIT: this thread is now officially closed off to newcomers. just don't want the thread to become too big here's to the nights we felt alive
here's to the tears you knew you'd cry
Ah, the infamous toga party was back for another year in all of its glory. Rory couldn't be more ecstatic. A party that required almost zero effort on his end. No need to obsess over what he'd wear. All he had to wear today was a white sheet. His frat brothers were scurrying about. People were starting to filter in for the party and they were nowhere near ready. A keg stand was being set up on the front lawn, and Rory would be damned if he wasn't the first one to use it. Thankfully, Rory wasn't assigned security duty tonight, so he could party to his hearts content. Looking in the mirror one last time and tightening his makeshift toga, he gave himself a thumbs up in the mirror before turning on his heels. Locking the door behind him, he tucked his key up on the door frame. Last time Theta Chi had a party, he stumbled into his room and ended up in a bed with two people already in it. Rory was all for a good time, but those surprises weren't exactly his favorite. Besides, as his interest in a particular hero grew, his room became more and more of a shrine dedicated to Aegis and, more importantly, Icarus. His fanatic nature of the powered people that protect their streets was no secret to anyone, but most didn't know how deep it all really ran. Sliding down the railing of the stairs, he quickly descended downstairs.
"Slug!" He bellowed, running up to his buddy manning the music tonight and throwing an arm around his shoulder. They all called him Slug because of how sweaty he was constantly. The house was yet to turn into a sweat box of bodies, and already pools of sweat were peeking from Slug's armpits. "I'm going to head out front, totally gotta get the first swig from the keg. I am no going to be subject to anyone's backwash," he furrowed, pausing momentarily to gag, "you all good here? You got tonight's music suggestions, right?" The only response he got from the burly guy was a nod of the head, drops of sweat flying from the tips of his hair. This isn't normal.. Rory thought, narrowing his eyes. One of these nights, Slug was totally going to pass out.
The room was steadily starting to fill up. Rory said a quick goodbye to Slug who was truly looking to be on the verge of fainting. Pushing past the group of people filtering in, Rory found himself on the front lawn, hugging buddies from the basketball team. It wasn't long until a buddy was holding him up and Rory was partaking in his regularly scheduled keg stand. Cheers erupted from the tipsy bystanders. It was BYOB after all, so many people did their pre-gaming and were all good to go.
"How wild do you think tonight is going to get?" Rory's teammate asked him, clapping him hard on the back. "Taking anyone back to your room?" Rory cringed at the thought. Nobody here was good enough. He had his eyes set on someone. They might unattainable, but his crush for the time being had it's talons clutched around his heart. Not even a no strings attached setup appealed to him. Ignoring the question, he shrugged, a sly smirk, taking hold of his features, "I've got a feeling tonight is gonna be a good one." He boasted confidently. He'd posted about tonight's party on his blog, Aegis Associates. He wasn't sure how big his following was as he didn't pay much attention, but he was sure it would get some traction. Besides, Theta Chi was under a new leadership, and their parties were only getting bigger and better.
Rory stole away inside where they had a table set up for beer pong. Holding up his arm, Rory called out to the nearby people, "Yo, who wants to go a round?" The alcohol he had up to this point was settling in, and he welcomed the relaxed, fuzzy feeling that took over. He made sure to add, "I take this seriously. I don't want no loser on my team," he said, his tone in jest, but his competitive nature being completely serious. Parties had trained him, and he considered himself a professional at this point. Beer pong should be a professional sport.
(feel free to do whatever you want with your characters, nobody has to take rory's offer!, current song playing at the party click this yo. EDIT: will also wait for a bit to see who all would like to join so a posting order canbe established if it turns into a slightly bigger thread.)

Ah, college parties. Ophelia hadn't gone to college. Her finishing school was the streets of Haven. Still, she could see the appeal of these parties. A whole slew of kids, newly freed from their parents' oversight, stretching their fledgling wings into all the vices that adulthood brought. They also were good to stretch their pocketbooks a little too. College kids were always chasing that next high, that next exciting thing to come along and keep them in the "in" crowd. Ophelia tried to make sure someone representing her interests usually ended up at these sorts of events, usually some college kid who spent too much of mommy and daddy's money and needed to get it back quick. This one had caught her attention, primarily because an Aegis fanboy had posted on his blog about it, and that was bound to attract a few people with powers, especially some in the law enforcement business. This needed more finesse, a more personal touch. Plus she looked damn sexy in a toga. She did her best to make herself look a little younger; these kids were likely in their early twenties after all, and it had been a few years since she was that bright-eyed and hopeful. Still, she was good at making it seem like she was something she wasn't. She didn't make a show of her entrance when she arrived. Her toga was slightly more elaborate than the ones everyone else was wearing, which were mainly bedsheets, but she knew how to just move with the flow of a room to be unobtrusive, which right now was what she wanted. She scanned the area, looking at the sides, the walls, the areas where people who didn't want to be noticed would stay. It didn't take her long to find the kind of person she was looking for. There was a boy, who wasn't even in a toga, wearing a hoodie and jeans, hood up, against the wall, looking out at the festivities, with that look that felt that there was something missing from it all, seen it all before, nothing new under the sun. She didn't go directly to him, rather mingled for a few minutes before eventually disengaging and ending up near him. "Isn't this party a drag? Just more keg stands and beer pong. Here I thought there was going to be some real excitement, someone from Aegis or something." The boy shrugged. Ophelia continued. "I was hoping the party would be exciting enough without it, but it looks like I have no choice if I'm going to save all the time I wasted on this toga. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad party, just... stale." She could see she had the boy's attention now. He was looking at her, wondering what the hell she was talking about. She grabbed a red solo cup from someone, hoped it was fresh, and took sip, then held it out to him. "Here. I'm going to go see if I can make this beer pong game a bit more interesting. Hold my drink for me. Feel free to try it and anything else you might find with it. Share with your friends, or people you want to be your friend, and if you run out... well, darling, I'm sure you'll find a way to contact people who can get you more." The boy took the cup and the small baggie of pills she had palmed with it, complete with a number for one of the dealers she regularly worked with. She'd get a decent cut from this tonight. Ophelia left the boy to experiment and share and pushed her way to where the rambunctious leader of the festivities was demanding a "serious" game of beer pong. "I'll give it a try, dearie. But if you're so serious, there must be stakes, right? What exactly is on the line for this game?" Rory Kain

i'll be your hero whose standing strong who protects you from any fight ❧ Normally Raphael wouldn't have been caught dead at some frat party. He thought he was far too awkward for such an event. But Rory Kain had posted on his blog that a certain superhero would be showing up, in fact saying they were best friends. And Raphael just happened to be that heroes.
Which was exactly why he found himself flying, wings alighting the sky around him, toward the city's college. He was fairly certain that this had a lot of potential to be a PR nightmare - He'd probably start trending on Twitter, possibly Instagram. There'd no doubt be videos posted to YouTube.
But he had saved Rory's ass multiple times since joining Aegis and he knew there were a couple possibilities. One was that Rory would get his ass kicked by some possibly bully if he didn't show - Was college like that? He'd never gone, only finishing high school. The other was that Rory would jump off of the building's roof, insisting that Icarus would show up to save him.
It didn't help his awkwardness that he wasn't dressed for the party - a toga was the dress code, he'd heard - but then again he was showing up as Icarus. Perhaps Raphael Starr might've dawned the required bed sheet - maybe - but Icarus had to stay clad head to toe in his typical costume.
He landed gracefully in front of the house. His wings spread out, their current length twice that of each of his arms. They stretched as if they were real, feeling real to him even if they weren't solid. Then they folded in, still visible, close to his back, his instincts telling him to make himself small in such a crowd - even if his wings couldn't hit anyone but would rather just pass through them.
He shifted on one foot, already uncomfortable with the looks he was receiving, though none of them seemed hostile.
"I uh--" he cleared his throat, "I was invited by Rory?" He didn't know why he was explaining this to the random students there. He gave them an awkward nod and squeezed his way into the house.
It was easier than Raphael thought it would be - most people who noticed him moved out of his way, jaw slack, eyes wide. And it wasn't hard to notice him - his wings gave off a brilliant yet warm, soothing even golden glow. Someone reached out drunkenly to try to run her fingers through the feathers only to discover they were made from energy and her hand passed right through them.
He needed to find Rory.
He frowned when he walked by someone - a young man, probably a student - passing something out and talking to his friends about it. Was - Was that drugs? His feathers bristled and he was very glad they couldn't see the way his eyes widened behind his mask and the grimace that quickly followed.
He paused in a doorway, glancing first at a woman who seemed to be joining in a game of beer pong with-- Rory.
He jumped up just enough, wings spreading and then quite literally gliding over everyone's heads before twisting so he could land gracefully at Rory's side.
"Hi, best friend," he greeted, putting emphasis on the end to let him know he'd very much read his blog post. 562 ● open ● n/a [attr="class","cred"]MADE BY VEL OF WW + GS[newclass=.cred]text-align:center;font-size:6pt;color:rgb(132, 132, 132);letter-spacing:1px;font-family:verdana;margin-top:5px;[/newclass] [newclass=.cred a]color:rgb(132, 132, 132);font-size:6pt;letter-spacing:1px;font-family:verdana;[/newclass]

ALARA BLACK - #013 | | | | | Alara had possessed freedom for a little bit. And she'd stolen her birth certificate and assorted details when she'd escaped. And erased all trace of her from the system. Hey, you couldn't be too careful. But now she was free, and she was enrolled in college. She was enjoying herself. So many new things to learn. But she'd heard about a frat party so she'd thought this was one experience she ought to have. She technically wasn't drinking age, but she also technically also shouldn't exist, so that was bound to even out, right?
She walked into the party in a toga. It was a toga party, she'd made a toga. She...kinda knew basic sewing from when she was bored so she'd made one. It wasn't fancy, but it also wasn't just a white sheet tied around herself. It actually was sort of tailored, had seams, and she'd incorporated a nice belt too. She walked through the crowd, and it parted quite nicely. Then she remembered. She still had her knives strapped to her thighs, and the toga's white fabric didn't conceal them very well. Well...fair enough. She went and got a cup of beer, sipping at it. Well that was different. She also heard the guy yelling about beer pong and walked over, putting her curly hair up into a ponytail to get it out of the way, the bangles she was wearing clinking slightly.
"I'm in for beer pong. But whoever's against me might be in trouble." |

here's to the nights we felt alive
here's to the tears you knew you'd cry
Rory was about to throw in the towel. For a moment there it seemed like people were more interested in grinding on one another along to the tune of one of many songs about getting high and having sex. Thus, he was delighted when he had a taker. Rory watched her saunter up to where him and a few of his buddies waited lazily by the table. She was attractive. Though she seemed a little bit older than Rory. How much older, he couldn't quite gauge. Rory's eyes gave her a quick up down. He could admire the effort put into the toga theme. There were always the few people that didn't even bother to participate, and those, bummed him out. Rory hadn't paid attention to her up until that point, and would fail to notice any shady dealings going on prior to her waltzing up to him.
"..Stakes, huh?" He said, stroking his chin thoughtfully, pretending to think long and hard but already knew the stakes he was going to place on this game. Rory was shamelessly all about the typical college experience. He hadn't done anything too crazy this year, so how about it? Grinning a toothy, impish grin, he suggested his idea in the most innocent tone he could muster, "Loser team has to streak. One lap around the house," he paused, shrugging, "unless you had something else in mind?" He was, amongst his brothers, the host. What kind of host would he be if he didn't listen to the wishes of his guests.
Rory's eyes had been fixated on the girl in front of him, all too ready to play a no doubt interesting game of beer pong. Quickly, his attention would peel away. For just a few moments, one could feel - for lack of a better term - an awkwardness in the air settle over the room. It left almost as soon as it came, but Rory felt it hang around him like a cloud. He looked past the woman, his eyes quickly locking onto the target of the source of the hush that had fell onto the room for just a few seconds. Not only did the fact he wasn't donning the toga cause him to stick out like a sore thumb in a throng of white sheets, but the glowing, vibrant wings really made him stand out above all else. It was as if Rory was picked up and transplanted into a coming-of-age movie. Everyone around him went back to their festivities, but for Rory, time stood still. His hand absently found its way on his chest, clutching at the bed sheet just over his heart. No double take was needed. The pictures mounted up in Rory's room were proof enough that he'd know the hero when he saw him. It was Icarus. Rory's focus went to his heart as it skipped more than what felt like just one beat. Had it stopped working? Was he dying? His mouth grew dry, and he took a long sip of his beer. Regaining his composure, he could only hope that little moment of his didn't last as long as it felt.
Rory downed his drink quickly, running a hand quickly through his hair. What did he do? He certainly wasn't sure when he said what he said on his post that he would come. Oh God.. the post.. Rory thought, wanting to sink into the floor and disappear. Rory's only hope was to grasp at straws and hope that he didn't see the post. Perhaps his favored hero was just taking a late night flight and saw the commotion. It was certainly a joyous moment when he realized he was slipping steadily into a more tipsy state. It would numb the embarrassment. Ducking his head and averting his gaze, he turned his attention back to the woman in front of him, opening his mouth to say something, only to be interrupted by Icarus flying over to them. Grand, illuminated wings and all. Biting his lip, he internally cringed when Icarus greeted those around him. Rory certainly caught on to the point Icarus was trying to make. Yup. He read it.. Rory thought. A sheepish grin took hold of his features as he threw an arm over the man's shoulders. He paid no mind to the fact that he couldn't feel the wings, or the warmth that hugged his arm closely. He was too confused emotionally to pay any heed. Clearing his throat, he did his best to sound as natural as possible, "Hey buddy!" he said merrily to Icarus, squeezing him on the shoulder. "So glad you could make it.." he said, before turning to his nearby buddies and the woman he'd just met, "this is my pal, Icarus. We go waaaaay back." Rory kept reminding himself to play it cool.
At this moment, another girl decided to join the small group. She too had a toga that was a step up from the typical bed sheet. He let out a sigh, glancing down at his own makeshift toga, feeling it pale in comparison to the other two. Arm still snug around Icarus, he leaned in. The music was loud enough where only Icarus would be able to hear what he whispered into his ear, his breath no doubt hot on his neck and carrying the scent of alcohol, "Where's your toga?" he pulled back, pointedly looking Icarus up and down, not masquerading the intention of his wandering eyes, "What a shame.." He was being a little forward. Alcohol tended to do that to him. Rory dropped his arm, allotting space between the two men. His arm felt ten times colder now that the warmth was gone. His attention, though divided at this point, turned back to the matter at hand. Beer pong.
"The more the merrier, eh?" He exclaimed, rubbing his hands together in hungry anticipation. Clearing his throat, he gave them a soft smile, "Name's Rory. Just figure you should know the name of the man who beats your ass in beer pong." He could only hope he wouldn't eat those words later. It was then he noticed what was strapped to new girl's thighs. He raised an eyebrow, but said nothing on the subject other then, "I want the newcomer here on my team." He could've asked to be on Icarus' team, but frankly, if they stuck with the loser goes streaking bet, he wanted to be on the other side of that. He wasn't even sure the hero would play. Besides, if this girl was a sore loser, maybe she'd stab the person that wasn't on her team. Meaning, not Rory. Rory's buddies clung around the table, any one of them eager to be picked to play. Rory looked at the girl with curly hair, "I suggested losers streak but if you guys have a different idea.." he trailed off, leaving the question to hang in the air.

Akio Ito had to practically kidnap her brother Kenji to get him away from being an international terrorist for just one night, it would be the first thing they had done just them since arriving in the city. It would also be the first time it was just the pair since Kiyoshi had been killed.
"Don't fight it Kenji! We need this and we deserve this," Akio argued as she pulled her brother down the street, "I think Uncle will be fine for one night!"
Kenji rolled his eyes, "Whatever Kio, a frat party though? American fraternities are a cesspool for everything we are against and your going, why?"
Akio smiled as the two fell beside each other walking down the street, she pulled out her phone and went scrolling through her social media account before shoving the phone in her brothers face, "She invited me and I'm not turning down another hormone adjustment," the last one had been interrupted by the need of blowing up the city, "I'm not messing up a third chance, so suck it up and do us a favor and get some yourself!."
Kenji gave his sister the finger as they came upon the party location, people everywhere which made Kenji grunt. The girl from the picture came outside to meet them, Kenji peeled away to smoke. Akio didn't try to go after instead she followed the girl and a few of her friends back into the thick of the party. As Kenji puffed away he got a text ping and pulled his cell phone:
The text came with a link to a blog, he couldn't help but not smile as he tossed his cigarette butt. Kenji shoved the phone in his pocket, pulled out a piece of gum, and with a spritz of cologne he turned to enter the party himself.

Ophelia liked this boy’s style. He went for the gusto. Plus, either way, it would work out well for her. Not only was she pretty good at holding her liquor, but what better way to prove that she didn’t have anything on her than to take everything off? When a hush came over the crowd, Ophelia’s confident grin faltered slightly. Had someone called the police already? Did someone snitch on the pills that were being passed around? Her eyes flicked briefly toward possible exits that she could make, unobtrusively of course. If it was police, the chaos of the partygoers trying not to get a slap on the wrist would cover for her. When Icarus dropped down next to Rory, she raised an eyebrow and her smile regained every last drop of confidence. This was a hero. An Aegis hero. If she could just touch him, she’d know everything about his powers. That was information she could sell. This night suddenly got much more profitable. A fourth came over, clearly wearing knives on her thighs. That was intriguing. This woman had some balls to walk around campus with weapons like that, openly. She nodded when Rory suggested the pairing. “I feel like I’m getting an unfair advantage, what with a member of Aegis on my team and all.” She moved over and went for a gentle arm touch on her new “partner,” all she would need to make thousands at least on selling information about his powers, only to be frustratingly thwarted when he moved away at the last second. It was fine. She would have plenty of opportunities. She still had to play the part of a partygoer looking to get drunk and/or high, so she figured she’d up the ante. “Now that Icarus is playing, just streaking around the house doesn’t seem like high enough stakes. You’ve got a pool here, right? Once around the house, then onto the roof, and a dive into the pool, skinny-dip style. Flyboy here can save us if anything goes wrong, can’t you?” Rory Kain

i'll be your hero whose standing strong who protects you from any fight ❧ The feathers of his wings ruffled in surprise when Rory's arm was suddenly slung over his shoulders and the other man was much closer than he was before. His wing closest to Rory moved instinctively and protectively stretching out behind him even though he knew it wouldn't help if something suddenly threatened the other man.
A part of him was disappointed that his expressions were hidden by his mask - such as the eyebrow he cocked when Rory said they went way back. How long had he known him? When had he first saved his life? Had it been a long time now?
He followed Rory's gaze to another woman and quickly, most likely due to his training, noticed the knives. Both wings stretched out a big before pulling back in, though his one ring returned to where it was, practically caressing Rory's back in its warm glow.
His attention was quickly snatched and he became very glad that his mask hid his face when Rory's voice was suddenly much closer. He could very much feel his breath through the breathable fabric of his costume and even smell the alcohol which confirmed that Rory was most likely already drunk. He also caught what the other man was implying, his face burning under his mask.
Raphael's wings ruffled again and he had the urge to hide his face even though it was already hidden. He was even tempted to take a drink to try to calm his heart - Was his heart loud to anyone else or was it just him? - but he was in costume. He was Icarus right now. It would have been unprofessional.
As soon as Rory's arm was off his shoulders, he felt a little bit more alone, pulling his wing that had rested against Rory's back closer to his own side. He didn't want to focus on that, though, so he turned his attention to the table. He'd never played it before and frankly it seemed unsanitary and a good way to get sick. But Rory had asked - or rather said - him to be here so he thought there wasn't any harm in watching the game.
Besides, it meant he could stay near Rory, the only person there he knew and thus the only source of comfort and calm in this crowd for him.
He blinked, brows furrowing when it became clear that apparently he was going to be participating in the game and-- Oh... Rory didn't want him on his team? His feathers bristled, his wings pulling in closer. He wasn't sure why that stung.
This also included two things he should very much not be doing while in costume: drinking and streaking - though streaking would technically not be in his costume... That had the very obvious risk of revealing his secret identity. He had no clue why Rory thought that would be a good idea. He also had no clue why Rory thought it was a good idea to be on a team with, and thus stand by, someone with knives.
He didn't notice the older woman try to touch him, moving out of her reach as he shifted from one foot to another. His wings were starting to press tightly against his back. Their warmth was becoming less and less soothing to him.
He opened his mouth to explain that he couldn't play when that very woman upped the stakes. He frowned behind his mask. His wings were starting to feel hot against his back.
"I'm not a personal hero," he said, trying to keep his voice as calm as he could and keep the edge of frustrating he felt out of it. He didn't like the idea of people putting themselves in danger because they thought he'd save them. He already didn't like the fact that he was almost certain Rory did exactly that a lot.
"You shouldn't put yourselves in danger because I'm here," he stated and he was using his Aegis voice - the one he used to remind people that while he was young, he had authority. "It's reckless and stupid."
He stared straight at the older woman because it was her suggestion, though he knew she couldn't see the glare on his face. 709 ● @alara / open ● n/a [attr="class","cred"]MADE BY VEL OF WW + GS[newclass=.cred]text-align:center;font-size:6pt;color:rgb(132, 132, 132);letter-spacing:1px;font-family:verdana;margin-top:5px;[/newclass] [newclass=.cred a]color:rgb(132, 132, 132);font-size:6pt;letter-spacing:1px;font-family:verdana;[/newclass]

ALARA BLACK - #013 | | | | | Alara watched the goings on with interest from a distance. She heard the woman try to up the stakes and then the hero of Aegis say that it was reckless and Alara stretched her arms behind her head with a grin.
"He's right. That's so reckless...for you. Even if I lose, jumping off a roof won't do shit to me." A cocky sort of grin made its way onto Alara's face. All she had to do was change into water before the jump and she'd be fine. But the poor wingboy looked like he was over his head so she decided to get involved. She looked directly at the older woman.
"Seriously though. He's absolutely right. It's stupid of you to suggest it. It's like you want something terrible to happen. Or maybe you really ARE that stupid." Alara arched an eyebrow, crossing her arms in front of her.
"Besides how many stakes are we going to make? This is beer pong, not fucking truth or dare lady." |

| Ezra had more than had his run of the place. It felt surreal going to a university party after he'd already graduated from OC and left all his friends in Bremerton behind. He stared into his plastic cup thoughtfully for a moment, before hearing some meatheads a couple paces away making a ruckus over one of the kegs. It was enough to bring him to the present moment. He chugged the rest of the cheap beer (not that he could complain, it was free after all) and tossed his cup in the bin. It may not have been in the spirit of the toga party, but he couldn't be bothered to get into a white sheet and olive branch headdress, and instead walked around in a garish yellow Hawaiian shirt with pink flowers all over it and some dark sunglasses that hid his eyes. His jeans were ripped, but when weren't they honestly. At some point he had vacated his tennis shoes, and he wasn't quite sure where they were between the five beers, the xanax, and the spliff he smoked earlier. He noticed a small gathering of partygoers having what looked like an intense discussion about beer pong. Nobody had even gone yet. Couldn't they hash it out over the course of the game? Bloody casuals. With a swagger in his step, he approached the table, catching the tale end of the conversation and standing next to the one wingless boy. "Oi put a cork in it, yah?" he cut in, accent coming out a little thicker than usual, "Watch a master at work."
