i'm a cast away men reap what they sow i say what i know ❧ Ariel stood in what was one of several training rooms in the Institute. He'd been asked to assess an agent's abilities so he'd designed the training room to appeal to the other man. There were plenty of platforms to jump off from in what he assumed was a feat of acrobatics - Far outside of his knowledge as he was more geared toward close quarter combat. Each platform were different heights and widths.
He didn't know why this agent - Hex, the file told him - needed to be assessed. He had a track record that seemed to depict nothing but success as far as he could tell. But then again since he had been asked to do the assessment, it was clearly a combat one.
There was a high possibility that in order to take down Aegis, the Cabal would have to engage in more direct combat and thus its agents needed to be prepared.
Ariel was dressed casual - and he had sent a message to Hex requesting he dress the same, forgoing their official uniforms. He wore a black tanktop and black sweats with no shoes on his feet.
On the wall by the door were various weapons from guns with rubber bullets, staffs, daggers, and even various types of swords. He had a feeling he'd want to use those later, to see if Hex was any good with weaponry - He hadn't read all of his file and suspected he didn't have access to all of it either. He wanted to leave some things a mystery.
He heard the automatic doors open but didn't look up from his tablet. He was leaning back against one of the platforms, trying to make sure he'd remembered everything - It wasn't every day he was asked to do something like this, after all. He hadn't even registered the doors had opened and someone had likely walked in until a full awkward minute later in which he blinked like a deer caught in headlights and quickly looked up.
"I uh - Sorry," he said quickly, awkwardly. He wasn't sure there was any way to explain he'd zoned out without sounding lame. "I take it you're Hex. I'm Reader, but you can call me Ariel. I've been told to assess you for any potential combat you may be asked to engage in while stationed in Astaria City. I recommend you not hold back as I have been ordered not to."
Like usual he was to the point and blunt. His tone, laced with his Australian accent, came off as cold even though that wasn't his intent.

[attr="class","vpostb"] [attr="class","vpostbg"]Had Silas been the prideful type, he may've been pissed at the way things were developing. The Cabal had taken him in as a secret, subtle lump of potential and squeezed out a diamond. The assignments that Hex had been deployed on were unanimously successes - even ones that blew up in his face he managed to salvage something that made his time worthwhile.
Silas didn't know why his superiors had called him into Astaria. He was used to working alone, only meeting up for short briefs, assessments or interactions with handlers. He didn't really care to know, either. Much as Silas loved the independence he'd had until then, working as part of a tangible greater force was a neat change of pace. So long as no one got in his way.
But then came his summons, shortly after touching down in Astaria. To be "assessed" in his combat skills. Hex was more confused than anything when he'd been ordered to go through the thing. Maybe everyone in the Cabal was being forced through similar screenings? Maybe this was a chance to prove that there was a reason he'd been fine on his own. Maybe he could wipe the floor with whoever was "assessing him."
So, Hex turned up a few minutes late - not as a power move, but because he may have gotten a little lost nonchalantly exploring the institute en route. Not that it would've mattered, since his proctor was busy staring at a tablet. Silas prowled to a decent distance, eyes devouring the other man opposite him. He ran his tongue over his upper lip hungrily, and couldn't wait to get into uncomfortably close quarters with the Cabal agent waiting there.
Silas lofted an easy, sly smirk, eyes shining, when the assessor finally noticed his company and ran through an awkward introduction. Hex hadn't expected a reaction so stiff and uncertain - the way the man, Ariel, he insisted, carried himself exuded only total confidence. "Silas," he said by way of greeting. "Don't worry. I can take it rough," Hex rolled his shoulders to loosen the muscles, then tossed an unabashedly sultry look Ariel's way and added, "it's not my first time." i'm a cast away men reap what they sow i say what i know ❧ Like always, he stared. He stared when the other man talked and he stared when he didn't. He wasn't trying to be rude and frankly he wasn't always aware of when he was doing it. It was part of his ability and he couldn't shut it off. He found he had that in common with his youngest brother - being unable to control their individual abilities. Thankfully his wasn't of the volatile nature.
He noted the look, the sultry nature of it and blinked - a sort of fumble in regards to his ability. He wasn't sure if Silas was trying to throw him off or if he actually found him attractive and wasn't afraid of letting that be known despite the fact that they'd only just met.
If it was the latter, Ariel was certain it would fade the more they interacted. It wasn't his looks that put people off him so he had no insecurities in regards to that. It was when he talked, when he forgot to express his emotions, when he stared - Those all had a habit of making any interest in him halt.
"As can I," he stated matter-of-factly, referring to being able to, as Silas had said, take it rough. He paused briefly. They were talking about combat, right?
He cleared his throat awkwardly.
"I have been asked by Perses to access you," he explained, his voice monotone, almost leaning toward cold. "Though you've no doubt figured that out yourself. I take this task seriously, as should you. While the goal isn't to necessarily pass the assessment, you should want to score as high as you can as it will affect the missions you are assigned while in Astaria."
He moved to place his tablet in a safe location before returning to the exact spot he'd been standing in previously. "This is the beginning level of your assessment - as part of the assessment includes examining your decisions, how we start is up to you. You may attack me or request that I start by attacking first."
It was an awkward way to begin, let alone hold, an assessment but he knew what he was doing - even if he wasn't quite sure what Silas would do... Yet. 375 ● @silas ● n/a [attr="class","cred"]MADE BY VEL OF WW + GS[newclass=.cred]text-align:center;font-size:6pt;color:rgb(132, 132, 132);letter-spacing:1px;font-family:verdana;margin-top:5px;[/newclass] [newclass=.cred a]color:rgb(132, 132, 132);font-size:6pt;letter-spacing:1px;font-family:verdana;[/newclass]

[attr="class","vpostb"] [attr="class","vpostbg"]He'd kind of been hoping that the flirting thing wouldn't be one-sided. The deadpan response took him aback for a moment, then his teeth flashed in a wolfish grin. Screw that, this was going to be a lot more fun than them trading innuendos. He wondered how uncomfortable he could make Ariel. How much more uncomfortable, he corrected, because there was an awkwardness running under his sure motions and body language.
Silas began to circle Ariel, lazy steps reminding him of when he used to strut down a runway. The proctor said the results of the "assessment" would determine what Astaria assignments he was given. "Mmm," Hex murmured, "and what grade to I have to get to be deployed with you?" Ariel stowed away his tablet and explained the first leg of the exam. Silas chuckled, because he'd never made good decisions - he'd just been, thanks to the Cabal and its training, able to roll with any fallout from them since.
Ariel handed over the power of the starting note to him. Silas circled closer, until he was behind the proctor, and leaned over his shoulder to whisper in his ear: "Come get me." Hex hurled himself backward in a balletic back walk-over, throwing out a pulse of foul intent at Ariel as he went: a distorting wave of probabilities to sow bad luck on the stoic examiner. i'm a cast away men reap what they sow i say what i know ❧ Ariel's eyes instinctively followed Silas as he was circled, his body stiffening anytime the other man got behind him and thus out of his line of sight. He needed to be able to see Silas in order for his ability to work and thus predict what he was going to do.
He blinked, confused by Silas' question. He didn't know why he'd want to be assigned with him specifically. His ability, each time he managed to get his gaze on him, told him that he was still being flirted with but... He shook his head to himself. This must have been a tactic to throw him off.
Despite the fact that his cheeks were starting to burn, he was determined to not let Silas' distracting be effective.
"Perses will determine that," he explained, "Field leaders such as Null and Quickshot can make suggestions but the decision is ultimately Perses'."
He arched an eyebrow when Silas chuckled, unsure what was so funny or entertaining. Had it been something he said? Not many people found him funny. Most thought he was cold.
Then Silas was right behind him. Every muscle tensed and his mind ordered him to turn around but he froze when Silas' voice, his breath, was suddenly on his ear. His face most certainly felt hot now.
Ariel turned around quickly only for his feet to slip out from under him. He cursed in Spanish and quickly grabbed onto the edge of a platform to balance himself. He looked to the floor. It shouldn't have been so slippery. In fact he knew it wasn't - that would have been a safety risk. The Cabal's agents needed to be able to properly spar and train without worrying about twisting their ankles due to the floor.
His eyes searched for Silas as he tested his own footing. He moved more cautiously than he would've liked until he was sure he had his footing and wasn't going to fall flat on his face. Once he was certain at that, as if something had suddenly switched, he moved, pushing himself over the platform and darting right toward Silas. Once he was close enough he feigned a punch only to throw a kick instead aimed to hit him square in the chest, hard. [attr="class","vpostb"] [attr="class","vpostbg"]Oh. My. God. If Ariel was cute to begin with, when he blushed? Damn. And it was so easy! Silas had been worried that someone as cool and collected as Reader already clearly was would be hard to play with. On the contrary, it was a cake walk and, rather than be disappointed at the lack of a challenge, Silas had to keep from biting his lip in a perverse satisfaction.
Hex watched the composed Ariel stumble, and the confusion was just as hot as the blushing. Silas could tell that Reader wasn't used to having any bodily coordination out of his control. Tripping wasn't in his nature. He was so thrown off by the misstep that Silas wondered if it was the first time he'd moved in his life without complete, surgical grace.
"What's wrong, babe? 'Fraid of a bit of bad luck?" Silas laughed, backing away from Reader as he tested his footing. He could see when a switch flipped in Ariel, though. From caution to determination. Had he not already proved so very much fun to toy with and bait, Silas may have rethought his earlier actions. Because there was no questioning that Ariel's look, and the way he pelted toward him to close the distance, promised some bruises.
He moved to block a punch, but it was a feint. The kick that followed connected, of course. Silas arched away from it to lessen the impact, but it was still a decisive, hard move. Hex skidded backward and smirked through a wince. "Worth it," he grunted. Silas threw himself forward, flipping and throwing out one leg in a heel-dropping kick. The second his feet touched the ground, he reoriented, throwing some weight onto his hands, braced on the map, and transitioning smoothly from the flip-kick into a wide sweep to try to knock Ariel's legs out from under him. Of course his kick connected, hitting his target. He didn't regard his success with any sense of smugness but simply as a matter-of-fact. It wasn't often that he missed when someone was directly in front of him. He'd noted Silas calling him babe but chalked that up to him trying to get under his skin, trying to throw him off.
However he also thought Silas had made a mistake. His comment about bad luck told Ariel instantly that his power had something to do with that. It explained why he'd slipped when he knew he shouldn't have. It made him wonder how bad of luck Silas could give him. He had a feeling he'd soon find out if he didn't gain the upper hand in this fight - Hell even if he did, he was still likely to find out.
Silas moved but so did Ariel's power. He knew he'd need to keep Silas in front of him for the other man to not realize his weakness. He expertly dodged the first kick, seeing it coming in a sort of slow motion. The next thought that struck his mind was from his ability. It told him Silas was going from a sweep, to knock his legs out from under him. He gracefully and expertly dodged that.
"You talk a lot in a fight," he said, though technically Silas hadn't talked that much. He was just used to his sparring being quiet. "Don't you have better things to do with your mouth?" His thought was that Silas should shut his mouth and focus on the fight - He knew it'd make it easier for him to focus. He was certain Silas was trying to distract him with words and he knew it had a good chance of working the longer he kept it up.
"Or are you simply all talk?" he asked, cocking an eyebrow and moving back into a fighting stance. "Because so far, I'm not impressed."
With that he leapt at him, throwing out another kick, this one at his side. He admittedly favored kicking over punching. He didn't pause after either, throwing another kick, this one aimed right at Silas' knee. | ... nothing can breathe in the space colder than the darkest see. i have dreams about the days, driving through your sunset breeze ... reader |

Hex's sequence of motions - his forward flip-kick into a sweep - was flawless; fluid; damn pretty to watch. But it didn't work. Ariel sidestepped the motion like he was avoiding a fly, and Silas's pride prickled even as he grinned slyly from the floor. The engagement of actions ended and the fighters backed away to size each other up again.
"Don't you have better things to do with your mouth?"
Silas's lips parted in surprise. For the first time, his sultry air of cunning and complete content wavered. There was a disbelief and almost a kind of offense there. "That's just not fair," he all but whispered. Because Ariel wasn't flirting, but the kind of unintentional innuendo in his words made Silas want nothing more than to interrupt the assessment and show Reader just how talented his mouth was at all the wrong things.
A hard edge rimmed his eyes when Ariel insisted he was unimpressed. The smirk returned to Silas's lips and he decided that it was time to pull out the stops. The next kick that came Hex's way, he blocked, and it was followed by another darting in toward his knee. He'd been winding a net of foul luck around Ariel, though, since he first started to move, and now he pulled it tight like a noose.
Ariel fumbled and Silas slipped past him, just as omnipotently as Reader'd been so far in their fight. With one hand, he slapped one of Ariel's ass cheeks hard, and twisted, throwing out his own kick intent on striking the other man's side below his armpit.

The second kick didn't go as it was supposed to. He missed - being blocked was one thing but missing all together took a chip off of his pride. If that wasn't enough, he also fumbled for the second time since the assessment had began. Once again there was nothing about the floor, the room, or even the kick missing that should have made him fumble like that. That told him Silas must have been the cause of it.
Before he could fully register that, there was a sudden pain that struck him from behind and he yelped mainly out of surprise but a bit from the pain as well. His face turned bright red because he was very much aware of where he'd just been hit. He was pretty sure that was the definition of a low blow.
Ariel realized that hit and the fact that he could no longer see Silas meant he'd managed to get behind him a bit too late. Where as he would have been able to block the kick if he'd been able to see Silas and predict it, this time it hit full force.
There was nothing like the grace he'd had earlier. He stumbled to the side, clutching where the kick had hit and cursing in Spanish. Whether the flaw in his ability was clear yet or not, it was most likely obvious that there was a flaw. Perhaps he should have ended the assessment there but he didn't like how it'd make him look if he ended it as soon as he took a rough hit.
Besides, he could take more hits before falling.
Ariel looked over at Silas, ability running the other man over, eyes looking over every inch of him within seconds to try to determine what he'd do next. He had a plan, but needed to make sure it was calculated.
He darted, his grace returned though it was clear with how he grimaced that the muscles Silas had hit were protesting. He made it to the wall with the weaponry and grabbed one of the staffs. He pressed a button and it elongated, sparking on both ends, though it was only set to stun. He twirled the staff expertly in his hand and took a few steps back, eyes on Silas, letting him know he'd allow him to grab a weapon if he wished, wanting to keep the fight fair. | ... nothing can breathe in the space colder than the darkest see. i have dreams about the days, driving through your sunset breeze ... reader @silas outfit402 words Hope this works. ;-; |

The way Ariel was pushing all of his buttons made it hard for Silas to believe he wasn't doing it on purpose. But that was the kicker: he definitely wasn't. And the total ignorance to it all just jammed Silas's libido buttons harder and- Again, it wasn't fair.
The yelp that Hex's harsh slap pulled from Ariel had Silas's face flushing for reasons very different than the ones coloring Reader's own. His clothes, slight and breathable though they were, felt constricting and too warm and his neck was blistering.
Reader staggered to the side, and Silas was mildly disappointed he didn't fall a little more: he was hoping to get him on his knees, to file that image away for later, personal use. "There's more where that came from," he purred while Ariel recovered. "I have another cheek that needs my attention. Fair's fair."
Curiosity colored Silas's expression as Ariel darted to the nearest wall. That intrigue became a touch alarmed at the staff grabbed - at how it elongated and its tips fizzed with electricity. "So the hand-to-hand win goes to me," Silas observed slyly. Reader was clearly giving him the opportunity to snatch an implement if he wanted it.
Silas wasn't prideful. He strutted casually to the display nearest him and looked over the choices. Biting his lip, Silas's eyes fell on a particular weapon and glistened with a predator's light. Reaching out, he pulled the coiled bullwhip from its hook and let it trail out on the ground beside him. "You first, loverboy," Silas smiled at Ariel. | ... i'm pretty like a car crash, ugly as a lullaby. you really wanna try it: experiment on me ... hex |
