Julian Stane feel free to progress to after class
[attr="class","hearmenand2"]Aleksandr was in the middle of a lecture. He was a college professor. Yes he was Cabal, but that wasn't how he liked to work. He enjoyed teaching, and it was his way of giving back to the world this particular generation. Previous generations he'd been a doctor, a scientist. At this point he was quite the Rennaissance man honestly. He stood, making notations on the board. Which was electronic and the notes were typed. Because he never could quite figure out why so many professors insisted on using the blackboards when there were projectors. He may be 520 years old, but technology was new. It was exciting! And he was going to use it however he could.
"History can't be understood nearly as well as we'd like unless we factor in the context of the times. And with that also includes the medicine at the time, and any outbreaks that happened. For example, we know all about the Bubonic Plague in the fourteenth century it wiped out a good part of Europe. But there have been outbreaks of the Bubonic Plague since. There were outbreaks in the seventeenth century. There have even been cases in current times. But because of the current context, we can take our knowledge of medicine into account along with our modern sense of hygiene. Put up your hands if you are fond of rats. Okay a couple of you keep them as pets I assume. Now who's fond of fleas?" Aleksandr laughed.
"Alright that's sigificantly less hands! See? You wouldn't know any of that or what it meant without our current historical context. Anthropology is finding out what that historical context was partially. But that's not quite my point." He ran a hand through his blond hair with a smile.
"In, say, five hundred years, we will have a vastly different historical context. And judging by the current state of things, it will heavily depend on breakthroughs made by and with people with superpowers. Think about the possibilities. The possible answers hidden within each powerset. We can't necessarily know their causes and their effects fully NOW, but in five hundred years? It could be insurmountably different! And without taking current events into consideration, the villains and the heroes, Aegis's presence for example, we won't be nearly as accurate projecting. Plus, Aegis with its public presence I'm sure will be helpful in making breakthroughs."
"Take Surge for example students. He's a scientist, he may have looked into this himself. But what breakthroughs could be made in the fields of energy if he was able to test his powers?" Aleksandr was gesturing rather animatedly at this point. This was his specialty and even teaching it every day it still very much excited him.
"And from what we can tell from digs, superpowers in some context have always existed. Were gods of cultures just superpowered beings? And which medical breakthroughs were made with the help of someone who had a power to do with it? Was the Manhattan project a nuclear manipulator? Was Isaac Newton a gravity manipulator who had to figure out why he could make that damn apple float? We might never know!" He grinned.
"That's it for today for history of superpowers. Does anyone have any questions before the bell rings?"
