He'd never been so nervous about having his brothers visit his apartment. They'd been there plenty of times already since he'd started renting it. But it wasn't every day he invited them over and specified it was for a family meeting, which meant the brothers only, none of their significant others. Having Theo, who practically lived there even if he hadn't officially asked him to move in yet, gone only added to his agitation. He'd set out simple snacks - mostly vegetables and fruits, everything vegan - onto the coffee table. He sat on the couch, fidgeting and grabbing his phone to look at the encouraging texts Theo had sent him earlier. He'd been dreading having this meeting, this conversation, since he'd learned that the secret identities of Aegis members had most likely been compromised. He didn't know how any of his brothers would react. He'd joined Aegis with a secret identity to keep them safe and he'd made that clear to them. He thought it was possibly one of the reasons none of them were too open about their powers. Their powers were all similar enough that either they'd be mistaken for Selene or it would have been obvious they were related to Selene, thus putting his identity and them in danger. Not that his secret identity had helped much. He was still pretty sure he'd been the reason behind the explosion that had injured Inara. But he couldn't keep this from them, lying wouldn't make them any safer. If his identity had been compromised, that meant his brothers were in danger - it meant Andrew and Adrian were in danger. He didn't think the latter two knew he was in Aegis - after all that wasn't Inara or Arnim's secret to tell - but they were dating his brothers and that meant if someone targeted his brothers, they'd likely target them as well. Ardeshir let out a heavy sight, setting his phone down on the arm of the couch and running his hands over his face, through his hair. He wondered if any of them would be upset or angry. He wondered if he'd get an I told you so. Had any of his brothers thought him joining Aegis was a bad idea but they'd just kept the thought to themselves? He practically jumped when he heard his doorbell. Shit. He got up, slipping his shoes on even though it was his own apartment. Stardust danced on his fingers as he hurried to the door, fading as he started unlocking it. He swung the door open and hoped his smile didn't look too nervous. | ... take me to your only garden, i wanna see the world you found. just sit me underneath the trees, i wanna see what you believe ... selene |
