[attr="class","really"] [attr="class","exhausted"]How do you know you're not Superman [attr="class","rhythm"] ❝ Maybe you just need to try being a different way | Andi could do a lot of things. There was a reason she was heir to her parents' company instead of her older brothers. Well...other than the fact one was too sweet for business and the other was a psychopath. But that was put aside because honestly her mother was too. Her point was that it wasn't just her birthright that had allowed her to be at the top. It was her constantly striving for new ideas. That said, there were some things she couldn't do. Markov Industries was a tech giant for a reason. That's where her skills lay. For anything that involved any of the other sciences, she was kind of a sitting duck. She was making a helmet that connected to her bike. But the tech in the helmet was also going to be used in other things. And the tech was meant to read impulses. It would also be connected to a bodysuit. She wanted something that could connect and register to the user's thoughts, and synapses. Something that would allow the person to react even faster. Before they could register to turn a steering wheel and actually do it themselves, the bodysuit would be helping. And the bodysuit was also meant to register the user's regular body statistics to tell if they were healthy or not.
The problem is she knew nothing about biology. She just knew enough to come up with the idea. So she was here at the Institute to find someone to help her. She'd made an appointment. When she walked in wearing her black leather jacket and jeans though, the receptionist hadn't really taken her seriously. Andi had had to show her her ID. Then she was given a pair of safety glasses, and inspected for proper footwear, and someone in a labcoat came along to show her to the main area where biology was based. She looked around the room. There were quite a few people and Andi was tempted to make a face. She kept herself looking relatively professional. But nobody approached her. She sighed. Seems professional wasn't working. She walked around the lab and looked over peoples' shoulders to see what they were doing. Truthfully she was hoping she'd find someone working on something similar. But people were starting to give her really dirty looks so she backed up into the middle of the room, leaned against a counter after checking it was safe, and took a deep breath.
"I'M LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO HELP WITH A POSSIBLY LIFE-SAVING TECHNOLOGY BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT BIOLOGY!" That was less professional, but hopefully it'd help? Andi had no clue at this point.

Rosemary was in the lab, reorganizing the samples she had to study because she'd thought of a better way to organize them last night. It was an organization specific to her that only she'd get, a sort of code, which would make it clear if she ever came back to the lab and someone had messed with them. She liked to make sure her things went untouched, her work went unbothered.
She noted the sound of someone entering the lab - this wasn't her personal lab but she had a corner that was all to herself. She had her own lab as well but unfortunately she could only fit so much equipment in there. She assumed it was one of her coworkers returning - Rogers took too many breaks and liked to wander.
She'd just slipped a sample under a microscope to make sure it was correctly labeled when she heard the voice, the loud words heightened by the lab's acoustics. She stood up straight, having leaned down to look in the microscope, and cocked an eyebrow as she looked to see who the voice belonged to.
She'd never met Andi Markov herself but she knew the name and the face. Markov Industries was in the news enough and Andi's name was often put with some new technological masterpiece.
"Perhaps a textbook would help," she replied, but it was clear on her face and her tone that she was joking. She put the sample back where she'd found it before walking over and extending a hand. "Dr. Rosemary Thorne. It's a pleasure to meet you, Ms. Markov. I'd steer clear of Dr. Rogers if I were you. He doesn't know shit about technology." She smirked, specifically playing off of Andi's comment about not knowing shit about biology.
She folded her hands across her chest. "Now why don't you pitch this possible life-saving technology and we'll see if the Institute is interested in aiding you?" | ... to all of the queens who are fighting alone, baby, you're not dancing on your own ... nightshade |

[attr="class","really"] [attr="class","exhausted"]How do you know you're not Superman [attr="class","rhythm"] ❝ Maybe you just need to try being a different way | Andi heard the voice suggesting a textbook, and was gonna explain but then she saw the person's face. Okay, they were definitely joking. She rubbed the back of her neck.
"Yeah I tried that already. Turns out it's not really my area." She laughed. The person introduced herself and extended a hand. Andi gripped it firmly and shook it with a smile. The quip about the guy not knowing shit about technology. She heard a 'HEY' from the other side of the lab and she grinned. She...may have held the handshake a bit too long. When she realized, she released it and rubbed the back of her neck somewhat sheepishly. Yeah so she was definitely awkward in this situation but Andi thought no-one would be able to blame her considering how stunning the good doctor was.
"Ah yeah just Andi's fine. Ms Markov's my mother." She grinned. She heard the question about the lifesaving technology and Andi nodded.
"It's a bodysuit that helps quicken reaction times by allowing the brain to connect directly to the suit. The suit then helps to make the reaction to stimuli faster. And also reads bio signs. Feeds it to technology the person has paired with the suit so that it can tell the person when something's amiss, and do it right away. Could be useful for people who have to react to situations clearly, but could also potentially be used as a diagnosing tool in a lot of situations. If someone was wearing a bodysuit, it'd be a lot easier to tell if they had a certain condition. Wouldn't eliminate the need to go to a GP, but would allow for a lot more documented symptoms for doctors to go off of." She realized she'd kind of word vomited all that. But she was passionate about the technology she made.
"But...I know tech. I don't know biology enough to do any more than come up with vague ideas. So I thought I should try to find someone who was as suited in the field of biology as I am in mine."

She smiled when Andi laughed, liking the sound she made as well as the fact that her joke was able to get that. "Lucky for you, it's very much my area," she replied as Andi shook her hand. She pointedly ignored Rogers' annoyance - he deserved it and she honestly didn't know how he hadn't been fired yet. She didn't think much about the length of the handshake because if she did, she knew she'd start thinking about how she quite liked the feeling of Andi's hand in hers.
She tried quite hard to ignore how cold her hand felt once the warmth of Andi's was gone. She wasn't doing very well at ignoring it, though.
She nodded in acknowledgement when she was told to call her Andi instead. It felt less formal than Ms. Markov, that was for sure. Felt more... personal, intimate.
"Rose," she supplied her own nickname, arms folded across her chest as she lightly tilted her head to the side, a soft smile on her lips. Her head lifted back up, her face becoming a tad bit more serious when Andi started describing her idea. She lifted a hand up, fingers curling not quite into a fist and resting against her chin.
Rosemary's eyes wandered as she listened, her mind working on picturing exactly what was being described to her and all the possibilities of it as well as the possible ways to make it work. She pondered it for a moment after Andi had finished explaining too, already trying to figure out all the ways she personally would be able to help.
"I'll have to send an email to my superiors," she explained eventually, voice thoughtful as her eyes found Andi again. "But I think that's something the Institute would be interested in helping you with - Something I would be interested in helping you with." She then realized she hadn't actually given any reasons for Andi to want her help specifically.
She quickly added, "I'm one of the Institute's leading biologists. I don't know if you recall the technology we released to help detect cancer earlier on and more accurately?" She grinned because she was still proud of that project. "I was the lead on that project." | ... to all of the queens who are fighting alone, baby, you're not dancing on your own ... nightshade |

[attr="class","really"] [attr="class","exhausted"]How do you know you're not Superman [attr="class","rhythm"] ❝ Maybe you just need to try being a different way | She heard the introduction. Rose. Cool name for a biologist, she had to admit. She saw the nod of acknowledgment and was glad the nickname had been accepted. Some people reacted to her 'please no Ms Markov' by calling her Andrea. She didn't know how they'd found the full name on her birth certificate but it was the bane of her existence when they did. There was the serious look on Rose's face when she was explaining her idea and she appreciated the attention from the doctor.
"I did have tentative approval from your superiors. I emailed them with the proposition but they told me that it was dependent on one of their scientists actually being interested in the collaboration. Hence my...unorthodox introduction." Andi rubbed the back of her neck somewhat sheepishly. She heard Rose speak about the cancer project and her eyes lit up.
"Seriously? You were lead on that project? Reading about that jumpstarted the idea I literally just pitched to you. I got the idea when I thought about a better way to detect things like breast cancer. A bodysuit made well enough could help find lumps." Andi grinned.
"Damn that means you're a biologist who also happens to be a force of nature. Fitting."

She blinked, a bit surprised when she was informed her superiors had already given a tentative approval. She lightly chuckled at the mention of Andi's entrance. Unorthodox was certainly one word for it. Entertaining was another. "Well that certainly makes my life easier, saves me an email," she replied with a smile then arched an eyebrow, "And I happened to have liked your unorthodox entrance." Was she flirting? Maybe, she wasn't quite sure yet.
Rosemary's face felt hot and flushed as her previous project, and thus herself, was complimented. She'd put a lot of hard work into that project, lot of late nights and overtime. She was still proud of it and the impact it had made.
"That bodysuit could help with other forms of cancer as well," she explained, going a bit into her own personal nerd mode, ideas already coming to her mind. "Did you know there's currently no actual way to test for ovarian cancer? Your idea could help with that. That's - Well that's fascinating."
She blushed and reached up, brushing a strand of her hair out of her face shyly. She wasn't ashamed of her excitement but she usually tried to tone it down in front of new people, not wanting to overwhelm them. Her face felt even more hot when she was very much complimented - Was that a flirt? She honestly hoped so.
"I'm sure you're quite the force of nature yourself," she replied, smiling with the faintest trace of a smirk. "And I'd love to work on this project with you." | ... to all of the queens who are fighting alone, baby, you're not dancing on your own ... nightshade |

[attr="class","really"] [attr="class","exhausted"]How do you know you're not Superman [attr="class","rhythm"] ❝ Maybe you just need to try being a different way | Andi heard the words about saving her an email and she grinned. Andi liked to eliminate extra steps in the middle as much as she could. It was red tape keeping her from actually affecting change in the world. Of course, the reason she was able to was the reputation of Markov Industries, but if she had to suffer her mother she might as well make use of the perks it afforded her right? She was glad that the doctor was mine with her weird entrance. Not that it...should...matter. But somehow it was nice to know that it wasn't minded. Normally she didn't do things like that, but progress had been hinging on someone taking interest and if no-one paid attention to her progress would be hindered. Considering the tech could end up saving lives, she wasn't about to let it stagnate. Andi saw the slight flush to the doctor's cheeks when she complimented the project. Andi didn't delude herself that it was because of her. After all, many people would act similarly if their project was complimented. All the best people anyways, out of modesty probably. She heard Rose's words about how it could help detect other forms of cancer.
"I didn't know that! I'm glad the tech could potentially help with that. That makes it possibly even more important to figure out and let out into the world. I was just thinking about breast cancer and like...things with heartrates. The thing they make you wear to take your regular heartrate for testing is...very annoying to wear. Not comfortable at all. I want to marry tech with biology, and use knowledge on comfort to make it better for detecting things like that. Because if someone has a heart monitor strapped in a harness to their chest, you aren't going to get normal readings. Because that is NOT normal to the person putting on the harness. Less effective testing in my opinion." The excitement Rose showed for the subject was encouraging to Andi. It meant the idea she had come up with had some merit to it. Then she heard her compliment returned and it was Andi's turn to blush, especially when the project gained the quality biologist it needed to succeed.
"Thank you, I certainly try to be. And perfect. I didn't expect to find someone to work on the project this...quickly I admit. It's a relief. Means work can actually start on the bodysuit. Will be lovely to work with you." She smiled an easy warm smile that reached her eyes.
"I'll make sure our Markov Industries building knows that you have access to it as well, but here's my card with my contact information. I will be stopping by here a fair bit to figure things out, but it's better you're able to contact me too. And that you don't have to cut through red tape with our receptionists." She grinned, extending her business card. It was black cardstock with silver writing, and had her work phone as well as her email and personal number. She had made a program for her cell to filter business calls and personal calls, so using her personal phone worked as well. It was an invention she came up with when she realized her mother's receptionists were playing phone tag with clients on purpose. Annoying, but there was nothing Andi could do about it herself.
