"So wait, what all happened?" Four heads turned to look at Shane, eyes moving behind their masks. It was an innocent question that held so much unintended weight. Scott didn't have the energy for this. He didn't have the energy to patrol. It had been roughly two days since Tim had been emitted into the hospital in the ICU. That night, he'd driven himself to an abandoned stone quarry, one that was quite familiar to him by now. His powers returning had been an expected but still horrible experience and had caused all the stress building up to blow over. He'd fallen asleep there and woken up cold the next day, pushing himself to his feet and forcing himself to focus enough to drive back to his own apartment. He hadn't really spoken to Orion much since then, aside from texts insisting he was fine, that he was just tired, and asking how he and Honos were doing. It wasn't anything against Orion, he just... He didn't have the energy. There were so many thoughts and questions he was left with... He didn't want to bring them up. There were too many. "A lot," Lisa replied. "A clusterfuck," Ivan supplied. "But Tim's fine," Julian added. "For now," Lisa said, "His girlfriend might have slapped him after we left for all we know." "She was uncomfortably quiet a lot of the time," Julian observed. Scott sighed. "Can we get back to patrolling?" Four sets of eyes blinked at him from behind masks as if they'd forgotten what they'd been doing in the first place. It wasn't even an hour later that it was brought up again with Lisa turning, perched on a rooftop with them, and asking "Have either of you talked to your boyfriends since?" Scott and Ivan exchanged a look and both went to answer when she added, "Texting doesn't count." They both closed their mouths. "Your boyfriends were there too?" Shane asked, confused. "Atlas' was," Julian explained. All eyes fell on Scott again. "Apparently Tim's the godfather of his kid." Scott looked away. Ivan frowned. "And apparently royalty too," Lisa added, "Probably European. I mean who still has royalty aside from Europeans?" "Which means one of Sparrow's is royalty too," Julian chimed in, earning a glare from Ivan. Shane just looked confused. "That's... Weird." Weird felt like the understatement of the century to Scott. "I don't want to talk about it," Ivan stated firmly before turning to stalk to the other side of the roof as if that would prevent the conversation from continuing. For once, though, Scott agreed. He didn't want to talk about it either. There were many questions in the back of his head on that specific topic and he could feel them demanding to be asked, refusing to be ignored. But he pushed them back as best he could. It was too much, too many questions, too many possibilities. It was overwhelming, all the damage control he felt he needed to do now. Orion and Honos were apparently royalty - and thus so was Apollyon, one could easily assume - and they already knew Tim. They knew him well enough for Tim to be Honos' godfather apparently. To feel safe with Tim being Honos' godfather must have meant that Orion and Honos knew Tim for a while now... Yet it had clearly been a surprise to each of the Stanes, who had grown up with Tim. Scott had admittedly never been as close to Tim as Ivan was, but... He couldn't quite figure out the words to describe how he felt. It was just too much. Then there was the fact that Alice likely wasn't going to speak to him anytime soon. She needed to learn boundaries, he strongly believed that, but he didn't feel like it should be his place to teach her that. He was tired of taking care of other people, tired of raising people. He was tired of having to be the responsible one. A car alarm sounded and all five vigilantes exchanged a look. The eldest two welcomed the distraction, both for once on the same page, wanting to avoid the unknown. "Alright, enough talking," Scott said, watching Ivan turn into wind, knowing he'd reappear where the car was. He focused on the remaining three and himself, decreasing gravity on them to aid in getting down from the roof quickly and safely. "Let's get to work." |
