TW: Possible terrorist situation, active robbery
Cassie was next in line at the checkout. She had a bedframe on her cart, a dresser, some potted plants, and a bookshelf. Finally, she'd start feeling like she actually lived in her apartment after almost a month! She distantly heard some noises - footsteps, shouting, metal moving, chains - but didn't really think anything of it, until she felt the tip of the gun pressed to the small of her back. Looking up from her phone, she sighed.
"Nobody move!" One of the people in a ski mask shouted, as he finished locking and chaining shut the doors directly in front of her lane that lead to the garage. The others were circling around, or like the guy behind her, picking particular people to terrorize.
"Put your phone down, and don't even think about calling 911," the guy growled, closer than was strictly necessary. Cassie did as she was told, waiting to see how this all played out before she made any moves.
The PA system crackled overhead. "Ladies and gentlemen - you should feel honored to witness the rise of Lijmibåj, master of furniture, and his glorious friends! If eeeevery single one of you hands over what you've got, nobody has to get hurt, simple as that!" The guy's cackling laughter cut off abruptly as he hung up the receiver.
Cassie had a thought. She turned her head a little to the side, and started complaining in a wobbly voice, trying to look and sound as pitiful and scared as she was capable of. "I'm really- I'm sorry to ask, but I was so close to checking out, and I really need to pee..."
"Lady, just hold it. Get on the ground."
"You don't understand," She whispered, like she was embarrassed, hand to her stomach. "I'm pregnant, and I just can't hold it. The baby's pressing down on my-"
"Ugh. Stop. Alright," The guy groaned, poking her forwards with the gun. "Make it quick." He escorted her over to the bathroom, and made to follow her inside. He cut that out fast and let her go in alone when she grabbed her stomach again and faked a little heave.
Inside the bathroom, Cassie let all the feelings she'd been tamping down finally hit her, especially anger, because of course this would be the kind of thing that happened to her and felt the form change take shape. She looked sidelong at the mirrors, and smirked when she saw the familiar red demon looking back at her. She took a minute to hide her purse in one of the stalls, then paced around a bit, shaking out her hands, stretching her legs. Then she took a flying leap at the door. The guy didn't even get a chance to cry out, there was just a thud and the soft sliding of him and the door skittering across the concrete. She stomped over to a register and picked up the receiver.
"My apartment is depressing and I was looking forward to it not looking like a white void anymore, I'm tired, and I was like three minutes away from a cinnamon roll and some lingonberry drink," Cassie growled, echoing throughout the store over the PA system. "I’m gonna find you and knock your teeth in, Lick my Balls or whatever the hell your name is." She smashed the receiver back on, breaking it, and looked at the stunned people surrounding her. A baby started crying; sometimes she wished that this other form of hers looked like a pink teddy bear or something.
A beat later, and the goons were firing at her. She grabbed a chair from a display and hucked it at one of them. Much like the guy earlier, him and the chair flew off into the distance. This time, though, they barely missed hitting a crouched husband and wife. Her heart wrenched, and she thanked God she hadn't hit them.
This really isn't a situation I'm suited for. Who knows how many people are in the remainder of the store... I can't just go around wrecking everything. But what I am suited for, especially since I've made myself a big red target, is distracting their dumb asses, she thought to herself, ducking and weaving as she attempted to draw the gunfire towards an emptier section.
“You!” Cassie yelled, pointing to the person in checkout 2 as she ran along. “Whoever you call for things like this, you should call them. And to anyone else who might have powers, feel free to step in anytime, because clearly I have not improved the situation.”

Jaina blinked groggily, making her eyes come back into focus. She was pissed. Annoyed and pissed off. She'd just wanted a warm, quiet place to sleep for once. Felt like treating herself. She'd had a rough couple of resets recently and she felt she deserved a treat. So she slipped into this IKEA, made a beeline for the bed department, found a nice little out-of-the-way display, and snuggled down to get a few hours of warm, comfortable rest on a mattress that hadn't been half torn apart for a rat to make its nest.
But she couldn't have been asleep for, what, twenty minutes? She looked at the clock on the nightstand. Nope. She was really pissed now. She'd been asleep for only ten goddamn minutes when some asshole started firing a gun. Or maybe setting off really loud firecrackers in a store?
She sat up. Nope, that was a dipshit with a gun, standing on top of a Luftwaffen or whatever they were calling that wardrobe thing and shooting the ceiling. Jaina slid out of the bed, grabbed a... the label said Lūmp but it was a lamp she felt she could lift effectively, and started stomping toward the guy. She was pissed. She wanted to sleep. And he was making too much noise.
She didn't even say anything, and he was too distracted with scaring the customers below him to really pay attention to what was going on behind him, so it wasn't long before she'd clonked him with the lamp. "THAT'S FOR WAKING ME UP, DIPSHIT."
She sighed in relief and was about to go back to bed when she heard gunfire again, coming from somewhere else. She looked out over the store, finally taking in what was actually going down. She sighed again, this time in exasperation. This guy she'd knocked out was only one of several goons shooting up the place, led by some idiot that looked like he'd made a costume out of an old IKEA uniform and threw a ski mask on top that... was he making furniture move to... fight a demon? Demons were real apparently?
Jaina picked up her lamp and ran at the next shooter. At this rate, she wasn't going to get any sleep until all these idiots were dead and she could hide from the cops in the closest cabinet. Or she just got shot and died. That could happen too.

Cassie was on the warpath. She strode up the escalator to the showroom level, flinging bad guys this way and that like a dog shaking off water. A few customers were hiding here and there up here too, but she was grateful it was evening and there weren't too many people left in the store. Wending her way through the level, she kept her eyes peeled for the main guy; figured she’d take him out first, and the rest would probably desert. Oh. There he was, standing on a table in the sofa section, wearing a mish-mash of old IKEA uniforms, and various pouches made from the store's blue bags. He raised his arms, flinging an armchair at an Asian man in an actual uniform begging him to stop this madness and just leave. The chair hit the employee with a thud. He didn’t move from where he fell. Lijmibåj and his goons burst out in laughter, one of them letting a few gunshots off in (premature) celebration. Cassie rushed over, taking the man’s pulse… he was breathing shallowly, his eyes fluttering. She pulled him around the corner into a display room and rolled him into the recovery position. “You know, you’re really, really lucky this man’s alive,” she spat in the villain’s direction, standing up slowly, moving her wavy blue hair back from her face with a hand. Stretching her arms, biceps rippling, she continued. “If he wasn’t, well. You’d be leaving here in a body bag, instead of a stretcher.” “Oh shit,” Lijmibåj said, finally registering that there was a big red demon here with the intent to kick his ass. One of his men immediately deserted, scream fading off into the distance as he ran. The villain huffed with anger, and started tossing clipboards, couches, anything within his immediate radius. “Get her, you idiots!” Cassie’s eyes darted left and right, trying to take in the situation. Seeing a young blonde woman across by the lamps holding her own against a small group of these guys, she decided to head in that direction. She ran to the side, dodging flying objects as best she could, punching away what she couldn’t, but every now and again he got a direct hit. The random stings of bullets bouncing off of her weren’t helping, either. “Jesus H. bicycling Christ,” she muttered with pain, as the side of her arm was raked with shattered glass from a thrown lamp. Finally making it to Jaina, she said through heavy breaths, “Cassie Stormchapel. Pleased to meet you. If you’ll be so kind as to watch my back, we’ll take care of this annoying asshole in no time.” Jaina Gaben

Jaina finished knocking the shit out of another shooter, and was looking to see what her next target should be when Cassie came up behind her. "Shit!"
She turned and swung the lamp at Cassie, her limited teenage strength not having much of an impact as it struck the large red woman in the head.
Jaina dropped the lamp. "Listen, I don't know what you think I am but I was just trying to have a nap today and I wasn't looking to die, but if I got hit and it finally stuck and it's my turn to go to whatever afterlife there is, trust me I am ready for it."
A wild bit of wood flying by smacked Jaina in the arm, and she cursed at the pain, and then sighed. "No, no I guess I'm not that lucky. Can't feel shit if you're dead, I don't think."
She grabbed a wooden ball sitting in a bowl on a coffee table and threw it at a guy, scowling as it bounced harmlessly off his chest. "I'm no good at this, Lucifera or whatever you call yourself. Which speaking of, you could be better with the secret identity shit. I mean if you're going for that. Telling people your real name right off is the perfect way to fuck that shit up."
Jaina let out a small scream and ducked behind an entertainment stand as bullets peppered the area she had just been in. She may have valued her life very little, but a survival instinct was really hard to get rid of. "Right. Anyway. This shit is out of my league, I don't know how the hell I can help, I just wanted to go back to sleep. And these fuckwads were getting in the way of that, so I figured I'd hit a few of them until either they stopped or I got shot or something. Best I can be is a distraction."
She sighed. This was exactly the opposite of how she wanted to spend her day. "I'm not like those Aegis idiots who go out looking to get involved in other people's shit, I just wanted a nap in a bed for once."
She gently bonked the back of her head against the entertainment stand. She wasn't going to get out of this, was she? "Alright, tell me what to do. Lets get this over with."

Cassie stood still as the lamp connected with her from behind. The tip of her right horn broke off, and her head felt like a rung bell. Hit by the woman who she’d turned her back to, she realized. She supposed she deserved that for more or less sneaking up on the poor woman. She shook it off and kept fighting, clonking two of the goons’ heads together. Listening as the other woman rambled on, she crossed herself. Lord preserve me. Better just let her get it out of her system, work through the stages of grief until she got to ‘acceptance.’ That was most peoples’ reaction seeing her rock up looking like a demon come to send them to hell. She sighed for a solid 30 seconds, even through blocking another thrown armchair. “It’s Mayhem,” she answered, “My codename. For all the good that’s ever done me. Impossible to hide your identity for long when you don’t have full control over when you turn bright red.” Being a notorious cop killer certainly hadn’t helped matters. Cassie cartwheeled to the side, blocking a spray of bullets from hitting Jaina. God, she was going to be completely laid out for a couple days after this one, she could already tell. “I feel you. I’m not with Aegis because I don’t want to have to deal with this shit, either. I just wanted to get a bookshelf and some potted plants so I don’t have to be embarrassed of my empty-ass apartment when my boyfriend visits.” Oh, haha. She hadn’t registered she considered Luca that until she’d said it out loud. She blushed purple against her red skin. “Anyway. I get really focused on what’s in front of me, and forget to watch behind… as you now know from experience…” Her head still ached. The woman wasn’t strong, but she had impeccable aim, Cassie had to admit. “So just whack anyone that tries to circle around, and let me know if anyone starts shooting that I don’t see. I’ll get you some food in the cafeteria when this is all over.” Her stomach growled loudly at that, her ulterior motive plain as day. “Fucking hell,” she muttered, so hungry it felt like her stomach was eating itself, charging forward once again towards Lijmibåj. She leapt at a pole in the middle of the show floor, grinning wildly, swinging herself up and around with ease and booting one of the goons in the face. Coming to a stop, thighs crossed around the pole, she sat there as comfortable as if she was standing on the ground. She re-evaluated the situation from her new vantage point a few feet up, putting a hand to her brow, like a spotter on a clipper ship. Couple more guys moving in from downstairs, and then the few that had taken cover between them and the villain… but overall, the two of them were plowing right through their ranks. She could see a lot of downed bad guys groaning on the floor. “If you stop now,” Cassie called, “I’ll let you keep your teeth! What a deal!” Lijmibåj let out a frustrated scream in reply, and she was chased down off the pole by a stream of gunfire and several computer chairs. “Right,” she said to Jaina, hoping the other woman was following behind as she took a shortcut through textiles. “More or less a straight shot, maybe four more of them plus the main guy, then another four coming up from behind. We’ve got this.” Jaina Gaben

Jaina sighed as she followed Mayhem as best she could. She hated this. She hated getting involved. She should have just stayed on the bed and hid there.
But now, she was really starting to get pissed off at the guy that started this mess. She figured following the bullet proof demon was the best course of action right now.
Jaina grabbed another pole-like something or other and hid close to Mayhem’s new position, watching her six, wishing that this could all end so she could slink off and go back to sleep and…
Wait. Wait that was an idea. Big Red here might be bulletproof but Jaina, Jaina didn’t give a shit if she got shot. “Hey. Mayhem. I have an idea. I know a way I can get them to drop their guard, focus somewhere else for a bit, then you can take them out nice and quick and this can all be over. Just go at em once you see it happen, okay?”
Jaina left, sneaking around to the other side of the store to be opposite Mayhem and draw their attention away from her. Jaina wasn’t about to explain that she was likely going to be killed or at least hurt. No need to worry Mayhem.
Jaina jumped out of her hiding place, threw the lamp like a spear at the dick in the IKEA costume, and screamed “HEY DIPSHITS OVER HERE. I’M A DISTRACTION!”
Instinct for the goons took over and a spray of bullets came Jaina’s way. She closed her eyes, waiting for it, and felt the searing pain hit her shoulder and then fell behind something as one hit her leg.
She opened her eyes and sighed, realizing that nope, she wasn’t getting out of this life that easy. She was gonna have to live with two bullet wounds until the reset happened tonight.
She just hoped Mayhem had the opportunity to finish these dickwads off after that.

TW: Unwanted touching, attempted sexual assault, detailed depiction of injuries/harm
Weaving her way through racks of carpet, Cassie stopped and turned around to check on Jaina. Yep, the other woman wasn’t following her. She thought she’d heard her say something, but she was so focused on finding the villain she hadn’t understood. Damn, okay, she would backtrack… her thoughts trailed off, as she realized with a start that there was now a hand wrapped around her waist. Frozen in place, she registered the brush of fingers on the bottom hem of her skirt with horror.
He didn’t get any further. Snatching the man’s hand away from her, she faced him, burning with cold fury. “How did you think that was gonna go for you, huh? You stupid motherfucker.” He started to wail in agony as she twisted his arm, the bones in his shoulder grinding together. “Shut up,” she said sharply, delivering a swift chop to his throat with the side of her hand. All he could do then was loudly gurgle and gasp as she crushed his hand with a sound like someone stepping on a box of cereal.
He collapsed to the ground, then, out of his mind with pain, but she stood over him a few seconds, face impassive. “Actually, I think I’ll save you for later.” She ripped a curtain hanging nearby off its rod, bundled it and the man under one arm, and climbed the pole to the rafters with her other arm and legs. Throwing him on a girder with no particular care, she tied him up tightly with the curtain, then once again looked down at the show floor.
Jaina popped out and yelled at the bad guys, to the predictable result of her getting shot. Once in the leg, once in the shoulder - not lethal, but it would be if she didn’t get medical attention in time. Right, that had been her plan, Cassie now recalled. She had to remind herself to breathe, tell herself that she would finish this quick, then go back for the other woman. Because if Jaina was that determined to provide a distraction, by God Cassie felt she had to use it.
She crouched down, scampering along the girder as quietly as possible, until she was directly above Lijmibåj. He and his goons didn’t spot her until she was already falling down on them like a big red wrecking ball. The fight was short. He threw a bunch of shit at her and she deflected it, not caring that she was getting scratched, bruised, beat to hell by the shower of objects. The last thing he threw was a sofa, and she caught it, arm and neck muscles cording out. She continued the motion, then whipped it around, hitting him and the two goons with an almighty slam like Alex fucking Ovetchkin. And sure enough, they spun and slid across the concrete like hockey pucks, coming to a rest against the far wall.
Cassie dropped the couch, picked Lijmibåj up and slammed him against the wall, leaving a man-sized crack in the drywall all around him. He started to talk, but she wasn’t in the mood for it, if she ever had been. She squeezed the sides of his throat slowly, slowly, more and more, as she held him up, his toes barely touching the ground.
“If I ever see you again, if I ever hear your name, if I ever even hear a rumor that you’re doing this shit again… you’re dead. Capisce?” She whispered in his ear menacingly. He slowly nodded. “Good,” she said, eyes flashing. Jabbing her knee up sharply into his stomach, she drove the last bit of air out of him.
Feeling like someone was standing behind her watching, she mentally prepared herself to make excuses, pretend it was out of self defense. But when she turned her head… thank God, it was Luca. She made a happy little chirp, and grinned. Lijmibåj fell out of her hand to the concrete floor with a tumble like a sack of potatoes. “I’m really glad it’s you. There’s still a couple more of them wandering around, and this blonde lady that was helping me is hurt over in the cabinet section. We’ve got to go back for her.”

“Ikea…of all places…” Luca muttered to himself as he pulled into the parking lot after a small group of patrol cars arrived to secure the scene. He got out of his work vehicle and headed over to a group of officers with guns drawn as they were ready to go in. He didn’t draw his gun out yet, as he signaled for them to be ready as he spoke to an officer, and gave her an order, “Sergeant. Make sure we have a perimeter around the building, and block all exits in case the suspects try to flee.” “Yes, sir,” she replied, getting onto her radio to relay those orders to the rest of the cops who were outside. “The rest of you are with me. Get inside and start a sweep.” He drew his own handgun out and held it in both hands as he took point and entered the large store, and scanned his eyes around while cautiously moving forward. While the patrol officers were busy, he followed a familiar scent, grinning a little as he eventually arrived at where she was located in the store. He slowly grinned in amusement when he watched as Cassie hit who he assumed was the assailant causing chaos in the store, with a couch. He bit his lower lip to keep himself from laughing, and stopped walking as he looked on curiously. Luca watched as she picked the lame villain up and slammed him against the wall. “Oof…” he winced for a brief second and grinned. He didn’t intervene or stop her as he continued to let her be. He watched as she squeezed the man’s throat slowly as she raised him off of the floor until his toes were barely touching the ground. When she started threatening him as she whispered into Lijmibåj’s ear, Luca listened and became inwardly exhilarated and impressed with how she handled the villain. He smirked when she finished off with a sharp knee to the man’s stomach, and when she finally turned around, he grinned sheepishly at her, while he gazed back with half-lidded eyes. He walked the rest of the way over to her and circled her and the idiot who was now on the ground, groaning in pain. “Good to see you, too. Finally getting more furniture for your place, eh?” He asked with a grin, while adding, “Don’t worry about the other two. We’ll get them.” He glanced at Lijmibåj while she mentioned to him about an injured, blonde woman in the cabinet section. He eyed Cassie and nodded. “Okay, take me there after I restrain this piece of shit.” He leaned over, as he holstered his weapon and brought out a pair of handcuffs, and then roughly brought the man’s hands behind his back with a little struggle as the piece of shit started to resist. “Don’t. Resist.” Luca warned him, pressing a knee down on the man’s lower back, just above his tailbone to keep him down, but the man still tried to resist. He roughly held him down by his head and shoulder as he leaned over until his face was close to the man’s ear as he pressed the side of the villain’s face against the floor, hard. Lijmibåj grimaced in pain. “Ah! Stop! Let me go! You're hurting me! I fucking hate you cops!” He cried pathetically, not looking like the big bad villain he was earlier before he pissed off Cassie, and then Luca.
“Shut up,” He whispered to him harshly, “If you continue to resist, I’ll rip your arm off and beat you to death with it.” The man’s eyes widened as he stared up at Luca from the corner of his eye, watching as the detective’s eyes glowed amber, while he let out a low, threatening growl, and bared his teeth to let him watch as his canines grew out. Lijmibåj suddenly nodded as best as he could, whimpering and pleading with him to not kill him, and promised to stop resisting. “Okay, I’ll stop! I’ll stop resisting! Please don’t hurt me! Fuck! Shit!” He whimpered like a baby. Luca leaned back, his eyes and teeth back to normal, and finally handcuffed the crying bastard as a uniform officer finally showed up after sweeping the store with the rest. The detective stood, glancing over at Cassie, and then at the officer. “Did you find the other two suspects, officer?” He asked. “Yes, sir,” the officer explained, “One was hiding in the cafe area, while we caught the other as he tried to escape out the back.” “Good,” he motioned at the officer with his chin as he glanced back at Lijmibåj. “Take him. Call for an ambulance, since she told me there’s an injured woman in the cabinet section.” The officer nodded, getting Lijmibåj to his feet and escorted him toward the front entrance, where he’d be placed in one of the patrol vehicles. Luca looked at Cassie. “Take me to her, and I’ll see what I can do for her while we wait for the EMTs to arrive.”

"Goddamnit. Why. Why the hell did they have to hit my fucking leg?"
Jaina was painfully trying to crawl away to a decent hiding space. Painfully and quietly. She didn't want to deal with this Mayhem person trying to take care of her. She didn't want to deal with the cops. It was always a pain dealing with them, except for that werewolf guy, but even he gave her this weird vibe. He wasn't like the rest, he acted like he cared about her, and she didn't trust that one bit.
Or she didn't think she should trust it?
He and that shadow dude with one leg gave her very weird emotions. All the more reason why she wanted to find a place to hide and either bleed out or just wait until she reset.
She cursed under her breath as she heard them coming toward her and...
She looked over her wounded shoulder and cursed loudly. Of course. She was leaving a trail of blood. She just rolled over and laid down on her back and closed her eyes. Maybe they'd think she was dead already. Maybe. Yeah, right.

Cassie trotted over to Luca, sneaking a little peck on his stubbly cheek. “I was trying to get more furniture, anyway,” she sighed. “I knew life was gonna be an adventure in a city full of people with powers, but… dang. Can’t even go to IKEA in peace.” Luca shoved Lijmibåj to the ground and cuffed him, and she let out a few breathy chuckles as he scared the shit out of the attempted villain. A small smile played on her face as she watched him instantly shift back to being Mr. Nice Cop to talk to his coworkers. When he was done, she motioned for him to follow her back through the carpeting section. As they wove through, she began returning to normal, a sense of calm settling over her now that Luca was here, and all the bad guys were taken care of. Her eyes flicked upwards as they passed the guy she’d tied to the rafters. His destroyed hand hung limply off the girder, and there was a tiny, almost imperceptible, groan. “Lot of guys ended up with crushed hands from trying to touch the goods during a lap dance,” she laughed. “A coworker joked that Sibley Memorial should give me a referral bonus.” It was then she noticed the toes of her Doc Martens were stepping on a streak of blood on the polished concrete. Probably left by the blonde woman as she dragged herself towards a hiding place. It was easy enough for Cassie to see and follow, and she led Luca right to Jaina, who was laying flat and looking pretty worse for wear. She knelt down, placing two fingers on the inside of Jaina’s wrist to take her pulse, then confirming with a second measurement from the side of her neck. “Not sure if she’s passed out, but her pulse is still fairly strong, thank God.” She looked curiously at the other woman, patting her cheek gently. "Hey... are you awake?" @lupo , Jaina Gaben
