Aegis announces youth intiatve "Gladius"
new after-school program aimed at teens and pre-teens with powers
By ELIZABETH BRANT
In a press conference yesterday, Aegis announced a new initiative aimed at children between the ages of thirteen and eighteen that possess superpowers. This comes after another attack on Aegis Headquarters, one that wounded at least one, the hero known as Icarus.
According to statements made at the conference, one of the attackers possessed a very dangerous powerset, and furthermore had a very loose control of it. Further details were not provided, but this served as an inspiration for what is going to be known as Gladius.
"We want to help children and teenagers with powers learn to control and apply those powers in useful and productive manners. In this way we hope to fight the helplessness they feel that can result in juvenile delinquency as well as other superpowered crimes as they get older. We believe that starting with teenagers and helping them control these amazing abilities they possess will fill a void in our society." said Colonel, Pillar of Aegis.
Aegis is currently accepting entrants into this after-school program, which will consist of several classes taking place throughout the week with a duration of a few hours at a time. The requirements given were that the applicant must be between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, and in most cases must possess a superpower of some sort that they wish to develop, although it was made clear that nonpowered applicants would be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Upon questioning, it was made clear by the Pillars that this is not intended to be a way to turn our youths into child soldiers. "We will be teaching them some self-defense, but the main focus is to help the kids learn about their powers and develop and perfect their control. Not everyone with powers wants to be a superhero, and they don't need to be one. It's up to each individual what they want to do with their lives. What we're trying to do is equip them to chase whatever career they want at their maximum potential." said Krackshot, another Pillar of Aegis.
No date has yet been given as to when classes will begin.
