The list of people who could be in the same room with Joan Amador without a lead-lined suit was incredibly short. Even his siblings, his own family members, had protective gear recommended when they visited him, just in case something went wrong. Those were the downside of being a nuclear bomb in the shape of a human being. Riley thought that was kinda sad. It wasn't Joan's fault, and she never wanted him to feel like he caused pity or anything. She just thought that it would be kinda sad to always have people have to wear a special outfit when they visited you, just in case. Being one of the people on that short list that could visit without one, she had made it a point to go visit him as often as possible. Lately, of course, Dorian was almost always present, to absorb and consume any dangerous radiation he might be giving off. Having his fiancé there seemed to keep Joan calmer too. Sometimes it made Riley feel like a third wheel, but she didn't care. All she really cared about was making her friend happy. Riley grinned to herself as she sped through the halls toward Joan's room, half the time not even looking at where she was going, but looking at the surprise she had for him. He didn't get to go out much, for obvious reasons, and so hadn't tried much in the way of food beyond what the Institute Cafeteria sent over. Riley was about to change that. She rushed in through the door. She was expected of course, but still. She told herself she should probably start slowing down to knock before coming in. "HI JOAN! I got you a surprise! Okay, where do you want to start?" Riley started setting down paper bags. "I got Nacho Bitch, Taco Bell, McDonalds, Burger King, Kung-Pao's Kung-Fu Flamin' Grill, and I even managed to grab--" she zipped out of the room and returned an instant later with a familiar square box, "Pizza! Looks like... ew, who orders just pineapple on their pizza?" She shrugged. "Eh, pizza's pizza. It'll still be good. So, surprise! I brought you fast food! Like... really fast." Riley acknowledged Dorian in the room for the first time at this moment. "Oh Hi Dorian!" Joan Amador@dorian

Joan couldn't remember exactly when he'd introduced Riley to Dorian - the only friend he'd had back in Sydney that he wasn't biologically related to. He'd known Riley for years now and it felt like he'd known Dorian for just as long. He didn't know what either of them thought of each other. He could search Dorian's emotions through their empathic link but just like he preferred not to do that in regards to how Dorian felt about his siblings, he didn't want to do that with Riley. He wanted his fiancé to feel secure in his opinions of anyone, even if those people meant a lot to himself.
But they seemed to get along well enough - possibly entirely for his sake. Dorian was a jealous person, after all, that fact was never lost on Joan. But Riley was probably the easiest to get along with. She had a way of going off of the energy levels of those around her. She'd managed to be calm around him a few times before, back when she'd had to wear a hazmat suit to see him. He was glad those days seemed far behind him.
He'd been aware that Riley was going to visit - She'd given him a heads up that she'd wanted to spend time together and in turn he'd given Dorian a heads up. However she'd neglected - purposefully he suspected - what the purpose of her visit was. Sure there was the fact that she probably just wanted to spend time with him - and thus Dorian - but he had a feeling she had an ulterior motive.
So long as she wasn't going to try to prank them, he didn't particularly care. He only cared about being pranked because he wasn't sure he could stop Dorian from throttling her. Depending on the prank - and knowing what she was capable of - he didn't think Dorian would take it in good faith.
The bedroom door was unlocked - He'd requested it stay that way because he wouldn't have put it past Riley to not check and run - at superspeed - face first into the door. Hadn't that happened once in Sydney? He vaguely recalled hearing Xander laughing about something like that. He hadn't seen it himself.
He sat resting back against Dorian on the bed, the older man's legs framing either side of him. His own shoes had been kicked off, laying toppled on the ground by the bed. He had one of Dorian's hands in his, absentmindedly fiddling with his fingers.
There was a knock on the door and he sat up straighter, eyes swiveling to watch the door open. He remained where he was on the bed but grinned when he saw Riley before that melted into pure confusion because she was holding a lot of... Was that takeout? Fast food? He watched her with confusion, glancing a couple times back at Dorian, as she rambled on.
Wait... These were all food he hadn't had since he'd been a child - Since before he'd gotten his powers. It wasn't that they had a bad affect on him but like the books he'd read, he'd just focused on eating boring food because any emotions risked more radiation pooling off him. But now he had Dorian to take care of the radiation, and Riley had clearly remembered this. Was this why she'd asked him earlier if the two of them had eaten yet?
At the comment about the pizza he snorted. "Americans," he replied, "That's who." He grinned at her then Dorian and then her again before beginning to make his way to the edge of the bed so he could perch there. "Thank you, Riley. I - Dios, thank you." | ... Dorian was, really and truly, making great strives on a personal level when it came to Joan. The trials they'd overcome together since becoming a couple; the ways Joan's love had helped to heal some very deep wounds on Dorian's withered soul; and above all the ring now looped around Joan's left ring finger, had all worked together to make him less... possessive.
Originally that trait had been because Dorian was a selfish and self-centered person. Then it was because he knew what a rare treasure he'd found in Joan and was terrified of losing him - it's what he'd deserved, surely. Now, though? The thought of Joan spending time away from Dorian didn't make anger and avarice flare in his chest. It was a tolerable concept, if an unwanted one.
Fortunately, whether Dorian was all right with it or not at that point, the dislike of being separated was shared with Joan. So, when he was contacted by one of his friends, it was implied that Dorian would be factored into whatever plans were made. After all... Isn't that what engaged couples did?
Dorian resisted tensing his grip on Joan when the knock at the door came. He let his fiancé straighten, partially leaving his hold, and wrinkled his nose at the immediate mingled scents that curled up from the assortment of paper bags. A disdain for fast food was a byproduct of his intentionally glitzy lifestyle, though he tried to affect a neutral expression by the time Joan looked back at him.
"Did you not order it? Or did you take someone else's?" Dorian asked, bemused, about the pineapple pizza. Joan wriggled away from him to one side of the bed and Dorian slid to the other. Standing, he moved to the kitchenette and its fully stocked half-fridge that lay under the countertop. Riley beamed at Joan. "It's all shitty food, but it's that kind of shitty food that's good shitty food." She zipped over and sat next to Joan, a slice of the strange pizza already in her hand. It really made her happy to see Joan happy for once. He was always so worried about hurting someone, even when she had come to visit before Dorian was a thing, and she knew she was fast enough to get out of range before he could really hurt her. Now that Dorian was a thing, he was so much more relaxed. The Amadors and Perses were the closest thing she had to a family. Hell, to her they were her family, even if it wasn't official. And all she wanted was for them to be happy. "Pfft, you think I slow down long enough to order something? Dori, you wound me. I would like something to drink, though. Whatcha got that's sweet? Helps with the hypoglycemia." She leaned back and took a bite of the pizza. "Hm. Whoever ordered this has weird taste." She grinned, recalling the look of confusion on the pizza delivery guy's face as he turned from his car with the pizza only for it to vanish a second later, leaving his hands empty. "So whatcha two lovebirds been up to in here? Wedding plans? Other activities?" She waggled her eyebrows suggestively. "You guys don't spend a lot of time with anyone else, people start to wonder." The cheeky grin on her face made it clear she was teasing, but there was a genuine care and desire to know what they'd been up to and how they were. Joan Amador
