"Next customer please." Landon was working his job at the grocery store. After the end of his military service, he decided to take a job that would allow him to see people who could use some comeuppance in their lives. Retail was the first thing he thought of. He'd been right but...they weren't really at the level to do anything about. He still needed money though, so he still worked here. Making smalltalk with little old ladies.
"This is my outing for the day! My you're big." He laughed and smiled.
"Yeah I guess I am to you. And a lot of other people. But I can't really help it."
"You remind me a bit of my grandson. Big and strapping."
"Is he a grocery stork clerk too?" He smirked slightly.
"No he's a snowboarder professionally." Landon's eyes raised.
"Oh wow successful. Wish I could get that bit of luck, right?" The elderly lady laughed with him as he checked through her items. When they were done he bagged them up and asked if she needed help getting them to her car and she shook her head before taking out a small collapsible cart. Sweet lady.
"Ready for the next customer."

Adrian typically didn't pay much attention while grocery shopping. He had Airpods in and was just focused on getting what he'd need to cook what he wanted. He loved cooking and had started cooking more often since he and Arnim had started dating - it was one way he could happily spoil his boyfriend. And he'd been learning more since he'd gotten that promotion - for reasons that continued to evade him - at HomeGrown. There was a pasta he'd wanted to try to make for Arnim but of course he was an overachiever and wanted to make even the noodles from scratch.
He added up the costs of each item he grabbed as he went - He'd possibly have to take another shift at his... second job. That wasn't a pleasant thought. But it'd be worth it - in the moment at least - if he got the recipe right and Arnim loved it. He had one of the small baskets, hanging on his elbow.
He took his Airpods out as he got in line, more so because it'd be rude to not listen to his cashier and he didn't want to risk pissing off the person handling his groceries. He caught most of the cashier's conversation with the older woman in front of him, frowning faintly with confusion because he wasn't sure how he'd feel if his grandmother had referred to him as "strapping" but then again his grandmother hated that he existed so any compliment from her, he should've taken.
Adrian glanced at his groceries on the register, making sure they were properly divided from those of the customer behind him - He wasn't paying for any more than he needed to, after all - before hearing that it was his turn. His eyes were on his phone as he stepped up to the register, sending a quick text to Arnim, who was still working currently, that he'd be heading home with the groceries soon.
He slipped his phone into his back pocket then looked up at the cashier and just... blinked. Oh. "Strapping" seemed like a good word to describe him. If he hadn't been in a relationship with a man he was very much in love with, dear God, Adrian would have flirted. Instead, face very red, he awkwardly cleared his throat.
"Hi," he said, wincing at how lame that sounded. "I uh - How's the day treating you?" He winced again because that sounded even lamer. But it was one of the many, many lame things customers always said to him in attempts to have small talk when he simply wanted to take their orders and leave. | ...
