There was a stretch of dead air that spanned between them, and for the life of him during it, Ezra wasn't quite sure what direction the confrontation was going to take. The more jagged bits of him that had been stirred up began to settle slowly- even before Rhys reached out for him. Without protest he went, eyes dropping to watch the words that came next. As rare as the moment of vulnerability was, it felt distinctly familiar to him. On some level it was almost disorienting to hear his thoughts spoken out loud, and he felt a twinge of anxiety tugging at his heart. It was so easy to fall back on doubt. His track record with protecting people wasn't exactly spotless and he knew it. But the stubborn part of him from just a moment ago pushed the intruding feeling aside with little consideration. Ezra's hands rose up to hold Rhys' face, thumb swiping against his cheek in a distracted, comforting gesture as he put his words together. "I know. But I can't lose you either." He said finally in a near whisper. His expression had long since softened, eyes sinking closed to mirror that of his partner. The well of emotion within him had calmed relatively, disturbed only by the periodic ripple of adoration that weighed and moved through him. A low whine from his feet pulled him out of the dreamlike moment, and he glanced down at their feet to see Jonah sitting there expectantly. Much as he tried, he couldn't help but laugh, letting one hand fall from Rhys' face to scratch the shepherd between the ears. Turning his head, he pressed a kiss to the older man's forehead, lips curled at the edges with a crooked smile. | . . . I can't begin to let you know just what I'm feeling . . . Séance @rhysand |
