Ophelia smiled in relief when he agreed to stay. She really hoped he didn’t notice that it was one of relief. Already, he’d just come back into her life, and she was plotting and keeping secrets from him. She felt ashamed at it. It was an odd feeling. She realized she hadn’t really felt shame for years. She wasn’t sure how she felt about that. She didn’t like how shame felt, that was for sure. She playfully elbowed him, trying to clear her thoughts. “You never know, maybe you’ll find a city slicker that’ll steal your heart and keep you closer to me.” She set her drink down and wrapped an arm around him, squeezing him tight. “I remember how to do all that, but I’m rusty as hell. I’d be willing to try again when we visit Ma.” She didn’t let go, but looked up at him from where she had her arms around him. “Do you have a place to stay? You could stay with me, it’ll be cheaper than a hotel. I’ve even got a guest room you could have.” She wanted him close. She wanted as much time as she could have with him. And it would make executing her plan easier. Francis "Flick" Courtney

Flick returned his sisters smile, not sensing it was one of relief and thinking it one of mere happiness. It had been a long time since the corners of his mouth reached his eyes but they were doing so now as he reached forward and cupped his sisters hands in his own, one gloved and the other extremely calloused from the years of farm work. He patted her hand lovingly before gently placing them back down. He jumped in surprised as he felt a playful elbow nudge his shoulder. His eyes widened, momentarily shocked before his smile returned again. It was nice that they were seemingly slowly slipping into old habits already. He always worried their reunion would be awkward, especially with him having grown awkward in his own nature over the years. He was very happy to see it was the opposite. " Oh.. I don't know about that," he said sheepishly, his cheeks growing ever so warm as he rubbed the nape of his neck. He was taken out of his embarrassment when Ophelia asked about where he was staying. " Oh! Well," his hand dropped into his lap. " I was staying at this shady motel," he gulped and cleared his throat, " but if it's not too much trouble, staying here would be.. well.. a lot nicer," he shifted uncomfortably in his seat as his voice dropped to a near whisper, as if the person who did it was listening and would shoot him down in that instant for talking about it, " I witnessed a drug deal go down, Oph," his eyes showed a hint of fear, " And then I'm pretty sure I heard a gunshot but by that point I was hiding under the covers," he laughed at that, his ears growing hot from his embarrassment. Some big brother he was. " So," he cleared his throat again, " I'd love of it if I could stay here. Seems a lot less sketchy and I'd feel better having you around," " The city seems like a dangerous place, Oph," he paused, looking at her with worry in his eyes. He didn't have to stay anything for his message to be clear. He wanted her to move back home with him. He wouldn't push it, but he wanted to plant the seed in her head. He'd feel more at ease with his sister being back home. She had a gun here for heaven's sake. Clearly that means something must have happened to make her feel unsafe in her own home, he figured. Only reason they needed guns at home was to ward off predatory animals from the farm. Ophelia Courtney

Ophelia's face darkened for a brief instant, wondering if it was one of her movers that he'd seen. She had no way of knowing, of course. She didn't know where this motel was. "Haven is a shithole, dear. Wrong side of the tracks. It's where all the criminals and dangerous elements like to peddle their wares." She made no mention that she was one of them. She was going to have to do a couple things. One, she was going to have to make it extremely clear to everyone on her payroll that Flick was not to be touched and wasn't to see anything even remotely dangerous in his vicinity. Two, she was going to have to set up a false office for her to take Flick to sometime to show her "pharmaceutical" work. "If you know how to handle it, Flick, the city is wonderful. I'll show you the park and the zoo, we can go out to the forest... Oh, and there's this place called Nacho Bitch. I don't think there's another one anywhere else. Best burgers you'll ever have. Trust me, I'll show you all the good things the city has to offer." She got up and went back over to the kitchen. "No hard drinks, but what about water? Juice? I have milk but it's not fresh from Bonnie, unfortunately." She sighed, feeling a wave of nostalgia. "I haven't had farm fresh milk in years. Haven't... haven't really thought about it, to be honest." She looked down at the floor, her head flooded with conflicting thoughts and emotions. It had been so long since she'd even thought about the farm. She'd written them all off. She didn't blame them for not coming after her. In fact, she believed that if they did come after her it would be to lock her up for killing Flick. But now he was here, alive, he wasn't dead. There was a part of her that wanted to think and dream about how things could have been different if she just hadn't run away. But the hardened part of her, the part of her that was Catalyst, pushed it away. This was her life now. She'd made something powerful out of it. And she was happy. Right? Francis "Flick" Courtney

Flick's lips pressed into a tight line. He wanted to ask her more. How did she know Haven was a shithole? Through word of mouth? Gossip and news surely went around a city just like it did their small hometown. Or had she experienced it herself? He desperately wanted to ask her about all that's gone down in the time that has passed. Selfishly, he bit his tongue. Assuming she had experienced some hardships after being separated from the family, he just couldn't stomach the guilt that would linger from hearing such things. Already an overflowing well of emotions due to their reunion, he decided to put a pin it, lest she brought it up herself. He'd inquire about it another time, when they'd have time to get to know one another again and acclimate. He did not want to risk his fire getting out of control, as it often did when running high on emotions. Nodding to himself and deciding firmly that for now ignorance is bliss, Flick tuned back in at the mention of zoos. It roused a frown. He was always teetering back and forth on how he felt about zoos. Though was his farm any different? Flick offered his sister a warm smile when she proclaimed she would show him all the good there was to the city. Typical of the rural native, he didn't have the best impression and was eager to see if she could truly change it. He slipped into comfort in that moment, relieved as he listened to her speak and relishing in just how normal the conversation felt considering everything. There was really no way of predicting how this situation would have gone. She could've shot him, not believed him and cast him aside, or whatever else. He closed his eyes and sent up a simple thought towards their Pa, feeling as if he was in the room with the two siblings. " Well, you'll get your fair share of fresh milk when you come home," Flick pointed out, excitedly. He did his best to keep any expectation out of his voice. He would love for her to come home indefinitely, and that was surely an offer on the table. But he was no fool. He could already see that she had roots here and her own separate life now. Flick rose to follow her, not wanting her to have to go through all of the work, " A glass of water will do," he moved towards a cabinet, gesturing with a gloved hand and laughing, " Just point the way and I can grab my own glass." Flick turned back to the cabinets and went on rummaging without much of an answer. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw her face fall. He frowned in turn, but kept on the search for a glass until he found one. He wouldn't press more on the farm tonight. He could only imagine the conflicting emotions on that one. Filling his glass with tap water, Flick took a long swig before clearing his throat. Closing the gap between them in the kitchen, Flick rested his gloved hand gently on her head, looking down on her with a fond, brotherly expression. " Anything you want to do tonight? Our first night back together after all. After all of these years," Ophelia Courtney

Ophelia's mind was racing, already identifying what she needed to do to make this whole thing work. She was overjoyed he was here, but as much as she wanted to she couldn't revel in that feeling. She'd burned that part of her away years ago. She was a shark, constantly moving, or she would die. So she was a little distracted when Flick put his hand on her head, briefly flinching at the contact, before embracing it and looking up at him with a warm smile. A genuine one, to her surprise. She'd forgotten that, well, that she'd forgotten what a genuine smile felt like. "I... I don't know. I just... I just want to spend time with you. I never imagined... never thought... This day was never going to happen, and now it's happened all of a sudden and I..." Overwhelmed with emotion, she wrapped her arms around him in a hug. She'd deal with everything else later. Flick was alive, and he was here, and she was never ever going to let him go again. She'd figure out what to do about the farm. Maybe she'd see if she could buy it. Make things comfortable for Ma in her last days. She could convince Flick to move to the city, and hire out people to run the farm for them. There were ways she could get Flick to stay. "Nacho Bitch. Let's get food. We'll start there, start to... pick up the pieces. Figure out how this is all going to work. So many things start with food, dear." She had a brief thought about using the restaurant to start to give Flick reasons to stay, but discarded it quickly. It was an injection, and she wasn't about to go and experiment with administering it orally on her brother. Maybe she'd find some bum who wanted fifty bucks and try it on him. But until that happened, she would just have to settle for small doses at night while he slept. "Let me get dressed, and we can go right now. Did you drive over here? We can get your car parked and take mine. It's very nice." Francis "Flick" Courtney

Flick frowned at the initial flinch at contact. His heart sinking for a moment. While he knew this was a lot to take in at once, hell, he was feeling all kinds of emotions too. He did his best to mask this, not wanting to sully the moment or cause her to feel a potential sense of guilt. He's mixed feelings subsided when she flashed him a kind smile. He returned it softly, the corners of his eyes wrinkling. "Trust me, I know.." he laughed, something light and airy, displaying the disbelief his sister spoke of. "I spent too much of my time thinking you were.. gone," he choked on the word, willing himself to stay cheerful. It is their reunion after all. He didn't want to keep bogging it down. Brown eyes widened in shock at the warm embrace, but he quickly released a sigh of relief, closing his eyes and resting his chin atop her head. Arms tightening, he relished in the moment, showing no signs of letting go. He knew he'd have to eventually, but he was worried the second he did this would all be some kind of sick dream. Ophelia would be a ghost again, no longer in reach. Flick's stomach growled at the mention of food, and he pulled away from his sister, albeit reluctantly. "Food sounds good," he nodded. He'd been so anxious this morning that the bit of food he did try to eat, didn't stay down. "Nacho Bitch..." he repeated, a curious look on his face, a childlike expression. These city slickers sure had interesting tastes. "Ah, I left the truck at my motel, just took a bus to get over here," he fiddled with his gloved hand. "I'm.. uh.. not accustomed to the busy city streets in my old age I guess." "So, Oph, you're riding in style these days, huh?" he smiled a toothy grin, "My sister has gone up in the world," he beamed proudly. "I always thought Pa's rusty bronco had some charm," he rubbed his hands together in anticipation, "Excited to see what my dear sister is driving these days." Ophelia Courtney

Ophelia pulled away from the tight embrace only to duck into her bedroom to change. She left the door open so they could still talk. This apartment was one of her clean ones, the ones that she used to look like a nice, upstanding businesswoman. Honestly, her favorite too, the lap of luxury. It was the only one Flick would ever see, that was for sure. "It wasn't easy, of course. Took a lot of hard work to get here. But I think it's all been worth it. I'm... happy." That pause again. That hitch in her speech, in her thinking. Why did it feel like she was trying to convince herself, not Flick? She was happy with her life. She was powerful, she was becoming more powerful, she had the world at her fingertips. An army of underlings to cater to her every whim, and enough money to buy just about whatever she'd like. She was happy. Right? "While my current ride may not have the literal rusty charm of Pa's bronco, I still prefer the classic lines. I rarely buy something newer than the 70s. I think I have just the car to take us to dinner tonight." Ophelia stepped out from her room, freshly changed into casual clothes. Well, casual for her, which meant striking red slacks, a white blouse, and a matching red leather half-jacket, with the heels and subtle jewelry to tie it all together. "Casual" for her meant portraying an air of power, of poise, of control. "And name aside, darling, Nacho Bitch has the best greasy burgers since Pa's fourth of July barbecue when I was six. You'll love it." Francis "Flick" Courtney
